About a month ago in between a lovely Bar Mitzvah service for a friend's grandson in Dobbs Ferry and the evening reception in Hastings on the Hudson, Shelly and I visited with our son Jonathan and his lovely wife, Carrie at their apartment in the Greystone section of Yonkers, above five minutes from the reception.  Somehow the discussion turned to

Walk This Road

Another special show last week. Not a birthday show as was the case with John Fogerty the week before.  The Doobie Brothers - Walk This Road Release Event featured a new album release by this Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member band (inducted in 2020).  It took place in a relatively small Venue, Irving Plaza.  Again accompanied by my daughter Marisa.

A very special 80th!

Marisa and I attended a very special 80th birthday party, last Wednesday (May 28, 2025).  We very much enjoyed the opportunity to celebrate with Rock and Roll Hall of Fame member (with Creedence Clearwater Revival) John Fogerty.  John performed on his 80th at The Beacon Theatre, probably the most beautiful venue in which to attend any show. John an

And You And I

On of my fave bands during high school was Yes.  Saw them at Madison Square Garden and the Nassau Coliseum.  I particularly loved the LP Close to the Edge (which includes my fave Yes song, And You And I, which provides the title of today's blog) and the live LP, Yessongs. I missed lead singer Jon Anderson the last two times I saw the band in 2009 a

The title might suggest I could be talking about yesterday's nice weather.  Indeed, I did go out under the deck to clear out the remaining leaves from the fall; after I sat on my patio chair near my grill and listened to some videos on YouTube of performance of "The Brothers" from their two 55th Anniversary  performances last week at Madison Square

Frampton showed the way

Marisa joined me to take in Peter Frampton's "Let's Do It Again" tour at The Capitol Theatre in Portchester last week.  Amazing show, especially when we know Peter contemplated retirement a few tours ago -- it was billed as a Farewell.  He sang and played as great as ever.  His four-piece backing planned played and sang on the money. I enjoyed his

Shelly and I shared a nice show last night with Marisa.  It's special when you can still share great and meaningful songs by an original artist with your children.  Burton Cummings of The Guess Who sang and played the hits and more in a worthy performance at The Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair. I had not seen him perform in more than a decade -- su

Caught my first live show of 2025 last week: "John Lodge Celebrating 58 Years of Days of Future Passed with special Guest Jon Davision of Yes."  The concert was at Flagstar at Westbury Music Fair.  My fave Moodie is Justin Hayward.  I was not sure what to expect when I decided to go.  I found a few YouTube clips of some prior shows with Davison sin

In advance of this Friday, or for when you opt to observe the sentiments associated with that day, enjoy an updated a set of songs that reflect the sentiments of the day (and more).  I present this most current iteration of Songs of Love, a set of 77 videos on YouTube or some 74 tunes on Apple Music.   The back story to this playlist: In the summ

Tomorrow

Tomorrow is a special day.  I point out that if it were not this year, it would still be a special day as we celebrate Martin Luther King.   In thinking about tomorrow and the change(s) to then occur, as well the traditional Martin Luther King Day observances, I looked at my playlists and offer these for your consideration:   Songs to Inspire a

A year-end review

At the end of each year I traditionally rank my top ten concerts.  This year I took a different approach.  I shared a chronological listing as I found it difficult to rank them.  As I related in my commentary, "What I found really difficult throughout involved settling on one concert as the best of the bunch. All I found special; some sets were l

Most folk know this commentator’s affinity for live music.  I enjoy attending concerts – immensely.  I was viewing a YouTube video and I saw a few links to top 10 live albums.  Both I checked out involved vinyl.  I had a few on each list.  While I like such lists, I never thought to list a top ten of my live LPs. It got me curious to how many Live

Building on the vibe in last week's commentary in this space, many I know root for a subway series.  The Bronx "tenants" did their part.  We'll know soon enough the outcome involving the Queens "tenants" I root for and who I brought my very appreciative daughter to a game also attended by my brother Jeff and Friday's blogger and sons and grandson l

Last week (No matter last night’s outcome as this got drafted before the NLDS game that matters to this commentator.) was a rather nice. In the middle of the summer I made plans with Marisa to take my daughter who likes live music at least as much as her dad to see the Doobie Brothers at the Capitol Theatre in Portchester last Monday eve. I was alr
