About a month ago in between a lovely Bar Mitzvah service for a friend's grandson in Dobbs Ferry and the evening reception in Hastings on the Hudson, Shelly and I visited with our son Jonathan and his lovely wife, Carrie at their apartment in the Greystone section of Yonkers, above five minutes from the reception.  Somehow the discussion turned to one of my fave topics -- followers of this weekly commentary must know that to be music.  It turned out our daughter in-law likes the music of  Culture Club; we shared how we saw its leader singer, Boy George, twice last summer with Squeeze, also the subject of a prior commentary in this space.  She mentioned she is very interested in seeing a documentary, Boy George and Culture Club, at the Tribeca Film Festival; we suggested a family outing including Marisa.  Once Jonathan confirmed that date and time for last Sunday, at the Angelika Theatre in the East Village, we five were set.  Interestingly, it also served as a pre-gathering for Father's Day today where we will host a barbecue here at what Marisa calls "Grand Junction" with the dad deferring to his son for working the grill (Why not! I can enjoy overseeing instead of "laboring.").

We really enjoy the documentary.  I did not know much about the band as Boy George became the center of attention as the singer and for things that occurred thereafter.  I learned the "Club" was a real band; all members were involved in composing its music; Boy George and the band's drummer were involved; something that occurred as the band formed.

Rather than give it all away, I recommend you see the documentary.

p.s. Happy Father's Day to all the dads.
