Bottom's Up!!
Posted By : Rona Gura

Happy July 4th Gotham!! It’s officially summer. And with the hot weather, my “drink of choice” changes. In the winter, during a weekend diner, I almost always order a glass of white wine. During the summer, however, my drink of choice changes. During the summer, I generally crave a cold, crisp rosé.   And, of course, my usual hot cup of coffee tha

I am Full
Posted By : Rona Gura

My younger children were home from college this week. And I have to admit that, for us, family time is all about food.     My daughter came home first last Monday night from Buffalo. Instead of coming home from the airport, we went straight to the “all you can eat” sushi restaurant in my town. Apparently, you can’t get good sushi in Buffalo.

It Smells Like Home
Posted By : Rona Gura

As I’m writing this blog, I have chicken soup simmering on the stove. My kitchen is filled with the wonderful comforting smell of the soup. As I smell the soup, I can’t help but think about my parents and watching my mother cook in our kitchen for Rosh Hashanah.       Certain smells, like chicken soup for me, can instantly evoke memories or br

Switching It Up
Posted By : Rona Gura

I am a wine drinker. I rarely--if ever-- order mixed drinks. When I go out for dinner I either  order a glass of Riesling or Sauvignon Blanc. I only deviate from these two choices when I see a sparkling wine on the menu. Every so often when I see a sparkling wine served by the glass, I’ll change my usual habit and go for that. During dinner

Childhood Treats
Posted By : Rona Gura

I was in a bakery last week when a sign on the display caught my eye. The sign read  “Swiss Rolls.” Looking at that sign immediately brought me back to my parents’ house and into their kitchen. Swiss Rolls were one of my favorite childhood treats. Although my mom never bought them from a baker; our Swiss Roles came in a Drakes Cake wrapper.

Load Me Up
Posted By : Rona Gura

When Passover ends, my thoughts every year turn to the same two items, pizza and bagels. I love a thick slice of pizza loaded with extra cheese and as many vegetables as will fit on the slice. Similarly, I am not a plain bagel person. I cannot resist an everything bagel, bursting with seeds.   In writing this blog, I feel the same about ice

Sunday Dinner
Posted By : Rona Gura

“Sunday dinner” means different things to different families. To my family, during the winter, it  generally means ordering in from our favorite Italian restaurant. During the summer, it means watching my husband cook our dinner on the bar-b-que. Given all of our busy schedules, it is one of the only days during the week that we sit down and eat di

Milk or Dark?
Posted By : Rona Gura

I learned at a very young age that there are two types of people in the world; those that like milk chocolate and those that like dark chocolate. And, the best marriages, are composed of one of each type of chocolate lover. My earliest memories of Valentine’s Day consist of giant red hearts of candy that my Dad would bring home to my Mom. In

Cookie Monsters

One of my family’s favorite shows is S"hark Tank."  In fact, we have, in the past, purchased some of their food products. In catching up on some episodes we missed, one product piqued my interest; cookie baking kits that were comprised of fresh organic ingredients, such as sugar and flour, with each ingredient separately packaged. What interested

I'll Have the Usual
Posted By : Rona Gura

We ordered lunch into the office on Friday. Without even looking at the menu for the deli we were ordering from I placed my order with my secretary, “Greek salad with grilled chicken, no dressing; diet iced tea. Snapple diet half iced tea half lemonade if they have it.” My secretary laughed and encouraged me to look at the menu. To appease her, I

Is There an App For That?
Posted By : Rona Gura

Last Sunday, I went to Eataly with my twenty-three year old daughter, Calli, my college roommate, Sharon and her twelve year old daughter, Rachel. In planning this excursion, we all agreed that dessert would be Nutella crepes at the Nutella Bar located in Eataly. Having arrived at Eataly first, my daughter and I did a quick exploration of the fam

My Not So Guilty Little Pleasure
Posted By : Rona Gura

While I enjoy a morning cup of coffee, I am not a coffee connoisseur. I cannot tell by taste alone the difference between a dark roast, medium roast, or a light roast. So I was shocked when, in New Orleans, I became enamored with the coffee served at The Café Du Monde. I liked it so much that I brought two cans home with me. When thos

A True Confession
Posted By : Rona Gura

Mitch’s last blog inspired me to write about this topic: I have a confession to make; I do not like and prefer not to eat meat. My older daughter feels similarly. I am not a vegetarian because I will eat poultry in any form as well as fish. This is not a political decision for me, rather it is simply a matter of taste. I do not normally di

What Type of Person Are You?
Posted By : Rona Gura

With all the unhappy events that are in the news recently, I wanted to take a moment to write a short blog about a fun topic. And, of course, one that’s summer appropriate. So, here’s the question: Ice cream; are you a vanilla, chocolate, or strawberry person? And, of course the follow-up question, soft serve or hard ice cream? I am a v

Name Your Poison

My family and I spent Christmas week at an all inclusive resort in Rivera Maya, Mexico, a beautiful location. Part of the fun at an all inclusive resort is that all alcohol is included in the price of the hotel. The first day at the beach my family and I had a blast trying all of the frozen concoctions. From the Blue Hawaiian to the Iceberg, we tas
