When I woke up this morning, I was looking at the clock thinking about the day and what must be done before I visit my Mom.
Sports are considered a positive distraction from the highs and lows of everyday life. In my youth I played them all with soccer and baseball standing out. In my middle years it was softball and running.
This blog was inspired by Tuesday’s Long Island Women’s Group meeting....As I was deleting emails on my phone the other evening, an email dropped down from a client updating some information.
New York City is a city of neighborhoods, each distinct yet inextricably linked to the others, a clear example of the “whole being greater than the sum of its parts.”
Imagine if that were a real question in conversation rather than just an expected exchange of pleasantries. We all say it, sort of like muscle memory. But are we really asking the other person to share how they truly are in that moment?
What has happened to salt?
I know it’s not a healthy preference but I like salt in my food. My husband will laugh at me because he has caught me salting my food before I even tasted it.
I have noticed, however, that most restaurants no longer have salt on the table. You have to ask for it. And, it’s generally taken almost as a criticism of the chef that you need more salt than provided by the chef.
I wore a special tee-shirt yesterday. Reason best explained next week. That said the saying seemed to align with current events. I gave no thought to that alignment when I set aside that tee Friday eve. It only occurred to me yesterday afternoon at the second winery we visited yesterday. As I recall things, our friend Starr (who is a mom by the way) has cat motifs in her home in much th way mom populated her former homes with butterflies and my late stepmom “exhibited” turtles.
I was asked today (Friday) what I'm doing this weekend. I thought about it and said "Pulling weeds."
It may sound a bit odd but there's great satisfaction when you pull a weed out - root and all. Especially those f*&^%$n weed vines that seem to cover everything. You will notice them on some of the trees at the sides of our highways. If left unchecked, they will kill off trees, plants, and bushes.
Digging in the dirt is very grounding (No pun intended :)
