Bar-b-Que Time
Posted By : Rona Gura

With Memorial Day upon us both me, and my fellow bloggers, are all thinking about bar-b-que. So my queries on this Memorial Day are simple, hotdog or hamburger? And mustard or ketchup?   Personally, I am a hotdog person. Most often with ketchup (sacrilege?) but sometimes with mustard and sauerkraut. Happy Memorial Day Gotham!!

Politics and Social Media
Posted By : Rona Gura

I generally keep my political views off of social media. I never quite understood the use of social media to express individual political views. I always felt it was better to express one’s politics in more conventional ways, voting, rallying, and financial contributions.     If you’re my friend on Facebook, you know that I did post a politi

Do You Uber?
Posted By : Rona Gura

The political issues involved in this topic aside, I am unsure about how I feel about Uber as a service. For the longest time I rebelled against Uber. I went to law school in New York City and always prided myself in my ability to easily hail a cab. While I also use subways often, yellow cabs were always my “go to” for short trips in the city.

Breaking the Connection
Posted By : Rona Gura

My son recently broke up with his longtime girlfriend. I have been talking to him endlessly to help him through the process of healing from the hurt. In doing so, I have realized that it is much more difficult for the kids of today to break that connection and begin to move forward.     When I was young, when a relationship ended, you just sto

The Cherry Blossoms
Posted By : Rona Gura

As some of you may know, my daughter had been in the hospital for several weeks. She’s a soccer goalkeeper and broke her femur while playing (yes, she made the save). Her injury entailed extensive surgery plus numerous weeks of rehabilitation.     Early one evening, I arrived at the hospital, tired, stressed, and sad. As I pulled into the parki

A Guaranteed Smile
Posted By : Rona Gura

Fred posted a picture on Instagram that made me smile. It was a picture of Gene Wilder as Willy Wonka from the original film, “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory.” “Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory” definitely stands out, for me, as one of my favorite films of all time. It is one of those films that I am guaranteed to stop at if I am aim

Winter is Here

Admittedly, I am writing this blog on Saturday afternoon, but I have only one thought running through my head. And I can’t seem to think about, or write, about any other topic today. My preoccupation is what will the final season of Game of Thrones bring? I don’t recall being so eager to watch the final season of any other television series than t

A Keyless Society
Posted By : Rona Gura

I have recently noticed that I am using keys less and less. I recently leased a new GMC Terrain and, for the first time, I have a keyless car. It has me a bit unnerved because I am afraid that, one day, I will leave the key fob in the car and lock myself out. Or keep the keyfob in my pocketbook and forget to lock the car when I leave. Additionally

The Era of Influencers
Posted By : Rona Gura

We are living in an era of influencers. Apparently, Kim Kardashian gets paid an extraordinary amount of money for having her picture taken with a product. I have noticed that other celebrities will do the same on Instagram. They will post either a picture or a video using a certain product and, clearly, endorse the same. I guess it’s the social med

Its About Parenting

I have been somewhat intrigued with the latest scandal that’s been in the news, Operation Varsity Blues. The parents of some of the nation’s wealthiest and most privileged students sought to buy spots for their children at top universities by cheating on entrance exams or faking athletic credentials. This scandal brings up so many issues that war
