Keith’s day
Posted By : Corey Bearak

Depending on one’s age you may be more familiar with the baseball broadcaster/analyst than the total ballplayer many of us “experienced” after Keith Hernandez joined the New York Mets June 15, 1983. It was electric inside and outside Citi Field yesterday (July 9, 2022). The Mets emailed ticketholders to arrive early; my Mets Group Sales rep Aaron R

Adding some color

About a week after Father’s Day, tree dropping that require frequent if not daily sweeping, virtually stops; it “allows” me to drop a fresh layer of red mulch in our yard. It gives a nice look to the yard. This year Shelly added more plants; I like the look. It’s a nice to view it from the deck where most days my “summer office” is sited.

On Father's Day I shared the concerts for last week.  Two shows at City Winery sandwiched a show at Jones Beach.  All featured exemplary musicianship, energy and great songs, many iconic.  The City Winery shows were each a family affair as our daughter, Marisa, joined her parents.  Marisa and I took in the show at Jones Beach.  Three amazing sets:

In Tune for Father's Day

Everyone knows I like to take in a good show. Last’s week commentary certainly made that point. So what better way for this commentator to celebrate this day with family than at a concert. So following an amazing concert – Sir Paul McCartney at MetLife Stadium Thursday night (Did you know the Boss joined in for two songs? – see the set list), my wi

Classic Artist, Classic Show

Last night we drove out of state to see Richie Furay play in an intimate setting where he live streamed a show.  It was originally billed as an acoustic show but as the stage setup below shows, it featured an eight-piece band. In part it was a pre-release party for a new recording, “In the Country,” officially release on vinyl June 18 and on CD

It's not exactly unknown that I root for the Mets.  Friends and colleagues know, I have strong opinions on personnel, staffing, who plays, player moves, even in game strategy. When first discussed last fall, I was not on board with hiring Buck Showalter to manage my Mets.  It turned out what I read about him was not what he turned out to be.  It st

2 graduations and some history
Posted By : Corey Bearak

Referring back to last’s week’s commentary in this space, we ventured to Boston, MA to attend the graduation ceremony of the “scribe” this past Friday at Northeastern University. The new PhD and her PhD spouse joined us for a celebratory dinner that eve; we also celebrated in advance the graduation this afternoon of the new PhD at Hofstra. Aft

Friday became a rather special day. It started with the Daily News publishing an op-ed penned by our daughter, Marisa, on its website and then we receive word our daughter-in-law, Carrie, passed her dissertation defense that morning, thus earning her PhD in Psychology at my alma mater Hofstra University.   Marisa’s commentary, Don’t just condemn

Saluting all the moms

No surprises this year. And I get spend part of it with two of the three moms in my life. You see I enjoy two moms; not of the Heather has two variety but it would be okay if that were the case. One I share with my brother Richy and our step-bro Jeff, whose dad, since passed, married our mom. Richy and I share with Rob, his mom Jean and our late da

At the last Gotham “Happy Hour” over Zoom, I opted not to use one of my Gotham backgrounds (Of late, I generally used the Citi Field Scoreboard announcing “Gotham Networking”.). I used the trees in my yard background that reflect what folks saw last year when I participated in Zooms from my “outside office.” Indeed some at Happy Hour suggested I wa
