Speaking of Damn Yankees - a new version should be coming to Broadway - but first - Washington DC - we'll see!
Casting has been announced for an upcoming reenvisioning of the classic musical “Damn Yankees.” The revival, directed and choreographed by Tony Award winner Sergio Trujillo, will begin previews on Sept. 9 and open on Sept. 19 at Arena Stage in Washington, D.C. The 1950s musical, which will be newly set against the backdrop of the early-2000s Yankees dynasty, will run for a limited engagement through Nov. 9 in the Fichandler Theater. The production is being produced by special arrangement with Haley Swindal and Julie Boardman, Tony-winning co-producers of the “Sunset Boulevard” revival.

One of the best things that my dad passed down to me is a fanatical rooting interest in Baseball, and more specifically, the New York Yankees.  I became a fan at the dawn of my Golden Age of the Yankees, in the 1950s.  During the span of Manager Casey Stengel's stewardship, they won 10 American League Pennants and 7 World Series. In 1954, an off yea

Not a football reference nor to the number of homers Pete Alonso slugged in his rookie year with the Mets but to the number of years elapsed between the first time I saw Neil Young in concert and the show I took daughter Marisa to last night at Jones Beach.  Yesterday, I passed 30 days following my hip replacement surgery so I found it particularly

When I was young, I remember sitting up close to our (small screen, black and white) Dumont television bearing witness to "Mr. Television", Milton Berle ("Uncle Miltie"), birthing modern communications.  And since then we have progressed so far: color TV, fax machines, the Internet, computers, cell phones, FaceTime and all the rest.  During that pr

Some know; some did not; everyone knows now.  Dr Gwo-Chin Lee performed surgery last Thursday to replace my left hip at the vaunted Hospital for Special Surgery.  I got home yesterday and rather intense rehab follows; no doubt it means limits on work and other involvements. I know others will step up to help. I appreciate the many well wishes from

When you reach a certain age it is prudent to visit a dermatologist every 6 months for a full body scan.  My dermatologist is Dr. Nancy Wolfin, in Great Neck, and not only is she a great doctor (she treated Bob Marley), but, extra bonus, she grew up in Long Beach and is a fellow diehard New York Ranger hockey fan. My regular full body scan occurred

"My Boys!"

Last Sunday was absolutely thrilling, as I bore witness (and recorded) my Grandson Shawn Atom sing and perform with my son Alex's, Bodega Tallboys, band at the Sunset Club on Tappen Beach, Long Island.  It evoked so much emotion, even tears, as they sang and played Dylan's "Rock Me (Like a Wagon Wheel)"! On the video, one can hear me exclaiming "My

Last month, I shared proud parent moments involving my daughter with whom her mom and I celebrated another achievement the month before. This month her big brother gets the kudos. Beautiful - we just did a FAMILIAL Week in Disney World with our three children, son in law and three grandchildren (had to do it - at least once). Getting family together is the best - no matter where you are.

Joanne and I have 2 sons and 4 grandchildren and in the past weeks we have hit the Familial Lottery! In that period Grandkids Ruby, Maggie and Jackson visited us in Key West in a whirlwind of eating, sunning, talking, swimming, shopping, laughing, biking, drinking, socializing, chilling, showing off and front porch sitting.  I know I've gained at l

When I was a boy I was made aware of the "Red Scare" (fear of the spread of Communism). It was an abounding tsunami of hate and recrimination abroad in the land. For instance, people were called before congressional committees, found in contempt and jailed for refusing to name names of alleged communists or "fellow travelers." Most prominent in t
