Some know; some did not; everyone knows now.  Dr Gwo-Chin Lee performed surgery last Thursday to replace my left hip at the vaunted Hospital for Special Surgery.  I got home yesterday and rather intense rehab follows; no doubt it means limits on work and other involvements. I know others will step up to help. I appreciate the many well wishes from family, friends, and colleagues. I must commend the helpful and attentive staff at HSS.  In advance of the surgery I got a nice taste of the hospital’s friendly and committed competence through my participation in its Lifestyle Medicine Program led by Dr. Heidi Prather, supported by a team including R.N. Karen Griffin and nutrition expert Kate Cohen.  The post-op nursing team including R.N. Shanaz Moddeen and Nurse Tech Julie Molit made my extended stay comfortable as the challenges at Grand Junction required Physical Therapy to ensure my ability to navigate my home.

It amazed me how my little iPhone not only kept me in touch but empowered me to get stuff done, including writing this blog.

On the early drive in after Marisa and her dad enjoyed a second helping of Daryl Hall and Glenn Tilbrook at The Paramount in Huntington the eve before, we played my Doin’ Fine playlist to set the proper mood as surgery approached. Indeed, I was able to keep my mind off the impending  procedure with several fun events: Tuesday eve my wife, daughter and brother Rob in from Portland, Oregon with his lovely bride ventured to Citi Field to see my (NY Mets),team defeat the Halos.  Monday, joined by close friends active in FDR Lodge 613 Knights of Pythias we planned out activities to the upcoming year. Sunday was an enjoyable BBQ.
