Breaking News

Well, maybe not really breaking news.     I cannot take credit for this thought but I have to say it stuck with me. A Sunday morning news commentator posited the following observation which resonated with me.     Do you remember the feeling that came along with that ominous, but extraordinarily rare, announcement of “Breaking News”? I do. It

Baseball Memories
Posted By : Nancy Schess

In this ongoing playoff season, I started to think about my own baseball memories. Growing up, my grandfather was the biggest baseball fan around me. When you think of favorite people in your life, he ranks very high.     He was a huge Mets fan. Whenever a game was on, you could find him planted in front of the television cheering on his team.

He Never Disappoints

Bill and I saw Billy Joel perform – again – at Madison Square Garden.     It is one of only a few concerts I can think of where you enter the venue singing, sing the whole time and leave thinking about the few songs you didn’t hear. His repertoire is so vast that he could fill many concerns and never repeat a song.     And, Billy Joel is so

I'm a Football Fan. Yes, Me.
Posted By : Nancy Schess

This past weekend, I experienced a first. My first Big 10 Football game.   We were visiting my son for family weekend (how could that have happened already?) and the Maryland campus was ready for football.     We walked by many a tailgate tent on our way up to the stadium. OK, I admit to never having seen a tailgate before and the tents were in

What's In Your Wallet -- Redux
Posted By : Nancy Schess

Do you have cash in your wallet? I’m not asking how much just whether there is anything green in there. I’m pretty sure the answer is generational.     I always have cash in my wallet, together with some emergency money stashed somewhere for well, an emergency.     However, with the advent of Paypal and Venmo and mobile banking of all sorts,

Serena
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I didn’t see the whole exchange, but I have been fascinated by the story.   Serena was accused of cheating and reacted, loudly and strongly. She would never cheat to win she said. She would rather lose.     Serena accuses the umpire of sexism.     Her opponent, Naomi Osaka, who in her own words, wasn’t supposed to win, did just that. Then she

It's Official

I’m not happy about it but here we are – it’s the official end of summer.   You know, it’s that time of year when the weather starts to change, the kids all head off to school and that slowed down pace we had all become accustomed to disappears with the heat of the sun.     Oh wait – it was over 90 degrees today and the forecast is the same for

The Ultimate Gotham Networking Experience
Posted By : Nancy Schess

A while back, some of you may remember that I asked for some recommendations to help us build a new deck. Of course, Gotham came through.     Gotham member Todd Bragin recommended Keith from Stellar Decks. Keith came with high praises from Todd. And the process began.     When it became clear that we needed an architect, we turned to Gotham’s

What Do You Recommend?
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I’m just about ready for a new book. My house is about to slow down and I’m itching for a few minutes to sit outside with a good book and a glass of (sweet) wine.     My last good read was the Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane. I like historical fiction and biographies, or really just well written stories.     Can you share your favorite book with

No, You Take The Spot
Posted By : Nancy Schess

The other day, I pulled into a parking lot by a local store. Another driver and I approached an open spot at exactly the same time from opposite directions.     How many of us have had that experience? The other driver looks angrily, honks, won’t move, etc. All because of a proprietary feeling over a parking spot.     On this particular day,

Your Most Favorite Electronics
Posted By : Nancy Schess

I love my iPad – but last month I had to replace my phone and now I am obsessed with my iPhone X.     My son is heading off to college and is emphatically switching from his Mac to a Dell laptop. He is insistent that the programs he will need will work better on a Dell.     He is also longing for a Microsoft Surface tablet. Consequently, a li

We're Packing Again
Posted By : Nancy Schess

We are doing it again. Packing to send a child off to college.     This time its my son and a completely different experience.     When we moved my daughter in to school – each of four years – it was a three day process. Freshman year there were actually ceremonies that the parents attended but after that, it was about shopping and putting f

Take Me Off Your List
Posted By : Nancy Schess

Has anyone else noticed an increase in the number of calls trying to sell you something??     Don’t get me wrong. I am certain some of the causes are noble – and really, I am sure my computer is broken, and the only solution is for a perfect stranger to take control and fix it. But, when I get home at night, or on my precious weekend days, th
