Is it a record?
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Not sure if it's worldwide but I did break my own record.   Last Thursday I was in 9 Zoom meetings in one day. Some were long and some were short.    I looked online but couldn't find any numbers for Zooming in one day. What's your record?

Plus or minus

I find it fascinating when you are with some people you feel totally drained afterwards but when you are with others, you feel energized.   What's that about?

Squeaky joints
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Getting old has side effects and certainly one of them is our joints. I find myself not jumping out of bed in the morning and rising slowly and carefully to acclimate my body to a standing position.   That's why this story caught my eye...   GWS Auctions, an auction house in California is selling a rare piece of movie memorabilia: the Tin Man

The new Superuser

Yesterday, Fred identified a positive result of social media in today's crazy world. It's ability to shine a spotlight on what is happening right in the middle of an invasion and the rise of an unlikely leader.   But there's so much more of what's happening inside of social media, particularly Facebook.   THE ATLANTIC has been able (with a gran

It's Time

Every feel like a 20-minute coffee with a friend goes by in a flash, while a 20-minute wait for coffee can feel interminable, yet in reality it's exactly the same time.   Most of us tend to think of time as linear, absolute and constantly “running out” - our present becomes the past as soon as it’s happened; today turns into yesterday.    If you wa

A 1926 message in a bottle
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Workers doing renovations on a Scottish golf course made a surprising discovery -- a 95-year-old message in a bottle buried in a bunker. (Corey...the link to Sting's song please:)   The Golf House Club in Elie built in May 1875 and across the Blackness Bay from Edinburgh, said workers were making improvements to the fairway bunkers on the ninth hol

Snowfall

It's morning on Long Island. The snow is falling, the wind is blowing and a blanket of snow engulfs the landscape. It's deep enough to smooth out the contours of the land around me.    I know that some of you will look and only see the work it will cause. To me, it's an unparalleled beauty that provides a sense of calmness and reflection.    There

Bumper stickers

Driving along Route 110 on my way to work I encountered a purple car with these bumper stickers.      I'm not sure if I should smile or be concerned.

Badgers?
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

After reading this you might think twice about badgers.   Experts believe that a badger foraging for food unearthed an ‘exceptional’ treasure trove of over 200 Roman coins.   The ancient coins were found next to a burrow, with some even inside it. Although the badger itself has not been seen, it is thought the most likely explanation is that it

The First One

It's a winter wonderland :) I enjoy the change of the seasons and especially the first significant snow.   Although, as usual, the first snow arrives with complaints. Well if you're complaining, you might want to think of moving. I like living here and experiencing each season as it comes and goes.    It's one the alluring aspects of living in the

High anxiety

Have you noticed it? Everyone has a heightened sense of anxiety. Lack of social interaction, polarizing politics, mutating viruses...it's no wonder.     We all have coping mechanisms and many are taking it out on their fellow humans by acting aggressively with little tolerance for their opinion or even consideration. I believe we are truly living i

I'm not one to self promote. Growing up, our house was about doing the right thing all of the time, laugh, be humble and respect all who live. So it's a bit out of character for me to write this.   Today is an unusual day. I'm not even sure if this has happened before. I looked and didn't find an instance but logic tells me it did - today is my bir

Doughnuts and coffee

You know, you learn something everyday and today I learned that flamingos like doughnuts and coffee. No joke.   The Granby Zoo in Quebec, Canada, reported that a pink flamingo escaped last Wednesday and was found a short time later loitering in the parking lot of a Tim Hortons. Karl Fournier, director of animal care at Zoo, said "To reassure everyo
