Halloween and Election Day are old news now (well for most of us) and Thanksgiving Day approaches.  With that I often think about the day after when my Pythian Lodge holds a BINGO fundraiser the night after. But, a few years back, an event a few days later captured my attention; and this year I opt to focus attention on it a bit earlier:  Giving Tu

At Gotham Happy Hour I shared something about today’s Gotham blog. Friday’s blogger remarked nice to not discuss my outside office (he used a different term!).  Well I did go there but only to retrieve the coffee pot so Shelly’s brew could remain in the thermal pot parked inside the kitchen-based coffeemaker. And I still found some time for yardwor

Two weeks of celebrations.

Last night was the last of two consecutive birthday celebrations involving the Bearak household.  The need to herald the Gotham Green Awards and call for applications via last week’s commentary sort of combine this into one.  Last night I tweeted, “Finally seeing the historical play on Broadway developed by the very talented son of my friend ⁦‪@Veg

Some may have noted someone MIA....again... at the Gotham Happy Hour. Sometimes the logistics work not at all. The intention remains. Parental duties intervened. Our son yesterday moved into home number 10 yesterday morning; his parents helped him and his fiance finish their “exit” from downtown Brooklyn across Adams Street from where his uncle wor

Gotta believe

Last year at this time I blogged with great optimism how things looked up for my baseball team.  The season that followed failed to meet my expectations, especially on the pitching side.  Lost Thor before the season started and Stroman opted out.  Pitching depth never overcame such a deep loss; it reverberated on the bullpen as usually happens.  No

A year ago I found myself blogging about how “my” baseball team messed up things, some not its fault, some self-induced with the selection of a new manager. Perhaps fitting under the prior never ready for prime time owners. Things changed this off-season, perhaps not soon enough, but certainly in satisfying ways for most, if not all, fans of my tea

When March arrives I anticipate and look forward to Spring. I think more about Baseball with opening day at the end of the month of late. Some other things of note occur on the Sports side. March Madness means College Hoops and pools for many. Football Free Agency starts in less than two weeks on March 14 (the draft about six weeks later, April 25-

Spacing out

Something that you learn more by observation than doing. Spacing out certain hard – aka physical – work. I still enjoy tending to my yard. Do not mind the exercise; though alternative exercise activities such as basketball or swimming I certainly enjoy why “playing.” This weekend – due to the famed midwinter recess closing the gym (in my boyhood el

She made sure her husband enjoys a nice space (one might say two). But this commentary leaves any more discussion of my “offices” for another time; definitely not here. Thursday afternoon Shelly texts me she expects a delivery.   I did not give much thought to what it might be but mused it might relate to her new space in our home.   You see the s

Though a special netflix program goes "live" today, this blog despite the title, involves that artist not at all. You see this weekend centers around my daughter and a milestone for her. She’s home a week ahead of that and already gathered in family and added some miles to her mom's vehicle re-connecting with friends nearby and regional. She made

The Noreaster caused some concern here going into this weekend. I looked forward to the disposition of many cans of paint that accumulated over several years in the shed, and various closets in my home. Ditto for the remnants of electronic – three laptops and a few external keyboard represented all that remained after taking advantage of various el

After basketball I chatted with Joe who plays (well but) intermittently of late about Shelly’s plans for me. He teased – perhaps he meant it – that I’d be spending hours putting together a chaise she purchased and arrived earlier this week – in three boxes. Yesterday morning before ball, Shelly started to open the boxes. I joined in. I suggested sp

So much experienced last week. Some truly tragic involving loss.  Revelations about hurt inflicted on others. Developments (ongoing) on the government side (not just in D.C.). A very successful function supporting a great program including its two centers serving seniors (where I serve as board chair). A great concert and an anniversay both of whic

Early this summer Shelly “declared” we would redo the “patio” and garden space below our deck next year in time for next summer. She meant a total redo to a space I did on my own probably at least 25 years. Some of the space, including a spot for the grill on Belgian blocks became an afterthought when we replaced the deck. At the July 17 meeting
