I'll be lucky if I make it to 93, although I do know someone who has—my Mom.   Today is her 93rd birthday. We are having a family celebration this morning at the Sunrise Assisted Living Center where she has called home for over 8 years. Although she can't remember much, she has experienced a lifetime of memories that my sister and I now seem to have.
I was brought up to believe in the necessity for and value of insurance and over the years have paid far far more in premiums than the rare settlement payments I have received.
The quotation, attributed to Winston Churchill, was tacked on the wall behind the desk.“However Beautiful the Strategy, you should Occasionally look at the Results.”As I gazed upon those words, other familiar words came to me and I considered… do the “Ends
As the Jamies sang in my youth: It's summertime summertime sum sum summertime It's Summertime!   Listen to the song
In 1985, I bought my first car – a white Oldsmobile Omega.  The car was a hand-me-down.  It had been my dad’s and he was buying a new one.  Literally, a new Omega.  I had just moved home after law school and it seemed a good idea to have wheels.  I remember the car made funny noises.
I have hazel eyes. My Mom, as mothers do, always told me that they made me special because hazel eyes are rare. Recently, I got curious and researched whether my eye color is truly rare. After looking it up, I think my Mom embellished the facts, just a bit    Apparently, violet and grey eyes are much rarer than mine.   I remember that Liz Taylor was known for her violet eyes.
Last year going into Father’s Day, I got to attend a mix of concerts and was looking forward to dinner and a show at the City Winery. Today, instead we host our children and our grandniece and grandnephew (their parents have a wedding).
I was in a card store yesterday buying lotto and felt the sadness of not having to buy a Father's Day card. It's been over 12 years since he's passed.    Though standing there amongst the sea of cards, I felt grateful that I had the opportunity to develop a deep relationship with him. Because of his integrity, kindness, patience, and unconditional love I believe being a Dad is the best job anybody can have.    Happy Father's Day to every Dad.
