The other day one of my young (yes young) basketball (Our school gym has been closed since schools closed in March and we remain without any word on a possible re-start.) players texted he is part of an outdoor summer “free, socially distant” concert in downtown Jamaica. I responded there were plans that eve to see one of my all-time faves in the South Orange Performing Arts Center in New Jersey that eve but I am sure it will be rescheduled (it was already rescheduled from la...
The title represents one of two relevant song titles I considered after deciding on this blog. You see I had another topic in mind – another discussion – perhaps another day, certainly another blog. When I retired for Friday eve, I opted to bring the laptop upstairs to leave on the dining room table for easy outside deployment yesterday. The laptop allows me to deploy the larger external monitor that, in many ways represents the outside office covered in some of my prior blog...

Tomorrow starts not just a new month. It’s also an end. A termination. A retirement of sorts. Maybe a beginning but I leave that for another time. I enjoyed it or endured it or perhaps tolerated it for more than a decade. It accompanied me to many an event. It carried a number of important possessions: a “club,” a football, a basketball. a pair of cleats. I started to remove contents on Friday. Business cards. Water bottles. Tire gauge. Phone charger. Lightning cable. A Got...
During this time where we read of folks infected and worse by the Coronavirus COVID-19 and wish and seek healing, I offer a collection of tunes to promote a healthy feeling.  I titled it, "Doin' Fine," after my fave Savoy Brown tune, also included in this set.   I enjoyed creating a few playlists this year shared in some prior blogs; indeed I enjoyed almost the entire Song for the Road playlist blogged on last week during a recent road trip and two shorter "runs" in between. ...
A week ago on a drive to dine out with friends, but not driving (Folks who know us both: Paul was driving!), I was scribbling a list of road songs and a few songs that fit that motif even if drive, road or highway was not in the title or lyrics.  I already compiled a train song list for my blog that ran last Sunday (check it out if you missed the blog gathered more comments for the week ended yesterday than Friday's blogger!).  So check out Songs for the Road.   Before forma...
Often my first show of the season involves a Gotham connection. Last year, it was a show at My Father’s Place that Shelly and I attended with Vincent and Susan Russo. Often, The Gotham Battle of the Bands® (“BOTB”) works out as my first show of the year. This year, definitely not to be. Marisa and I take in the Eagles later this month at MSG. A few weeks back I already outlined here the state of my concert plans. Besides the band above influenced by my favorite band Poco and ...
It’s a new beginning today.   Yes my Jets start their season this afternoon with many of us holding rather high expectations, especially for the offense. I certainly plan to tune in this afternoon. But today’s blog covers another re-boot of sorts.   This beginning involves a homecoming of sorts.  A return to New York. Several years ago our daughter, Marisa, and friend Nicole took off for L.A.  It was a nice road trip and pictures, emails and texts were shared throughout.  The...
We saw some really great shows so far this year. And it’s not impossible that by the time this month passes nothing can top 2019’s August. Already this month we saw Poco co-founder Jim Messina (perhaps better known for his work with Kenny Loggins) August 5 at current fave venue, My Father’s Place. This past Thursday at Radio City Music Hall, we enjoyed John Fogerty who led Creedence Clearwater Revival to a string of double-sided hit singles and earns kudos for his solo work. ...

Today's special anniversary I recalled not.  Shame on me.  Avid Poco Fan who writes this weekly commentary.  It took a fellow John Fogerty/Creedence Clearwater Revival fan, from Finland at that, who reminded me after sending him birthday wishes last week. So here's to Pickin' Up The Pieces, Poco's iconic debut album released this day in 1969. We celebrated the event last night.  Musically of course. Poco co-founder, Richie Furay performed at SOPAC (South Orange Performing Ar...
Best wishes in this first weekend of the new year. Many recent Gotham blogs looked ahead and share resolutions and predictions for this year. Instead, I continue practice to share a list compiled and commentary posted to my website on the top ten shows I attended in the year just ended. Hope you find the list -- 1) John Fogerty and ZZ Top 2) The Richie Furay Band performs POCO DeLIVErin’ 3) Jeff Beck, Paul Rodgers, Ann Wilson 4) Glenn Tilbrook 5) The Eagles 6) Ro...
