AI in the classroom
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Because of the explosion of AI, educators have to rethink how they’ll teach courses this fall from Writing 101 to computer science. As an.educator myself, I want to embrace the technology’s potential to teach and learn in new ways. The issue is when you have to assess students, there's a need to “ChatGPT-proof” test questions and assignments.   Cou

Driving a manual shift car has many advantages...but this one had me chuckling    If you're wondering, it was on the rear windshield of a Subaru WRX.Enjoy your long weekend!

Gummies? Legal weed?    Unfortunately not.  I'm referencing the kind that your body creates in your kidneys. Apparently it's more common then you might imagine.   I've been battling them for two weeks and I think they've finally passed me by. Quite a battle...and may I say I'm a bit battle weary :)   To prevent them, they tell me not to eat fish, p

Ferry good
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Nothing like a ferry ride across the LI Sound on a beautiful day like yesterday.   We were on our way to a wedding in Connecticut and instead of driving around on 95, we decided to take the Orient Point Ferry to New London. It's worth every penny. What a relaxing break.   I started to wonder what other alternate paths or breaks could or do I take d

Fishing anyone?
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

This story gives new meaning to catching the big one.   While on a fishing trip with her family in late July, Tampa Bay Mayor Jane Castor reeled in a big catch...about 70 pounds of cocaine valued at some $1.1 million dollars.   The mayor told the Tampa Bay Times that the drugs were found in a package adrift in the Atlantic Ocean as she and other fa

Can you bear it?

Even the bears need to cool off.   Police in the city of Burbank responded to a report of a bear sighting in a residential neighborhood and found the animal sitting in a Jacuzzi behind one of the homes.   After a short dip, the bear climbed over a wall and headed to a tree behind the home, police said in a statement Friday.    It might of been ove

Forgiveness or approval?   Do you usually seek approval before taking action or ask for forgiveness after the fact? Both have it's plus's and minus's.   Seeking approval fosters trust and open communication, creating a supportive environment for collaboration and cooperation. However, it can lead to indecisiveness, a lack of personal autonomy, hind

Pace of play

Everything is moving faster it seems. Business, the proliferation of AI, and even baseball. As my Uncle says "Faster, Better, Cheaper" :)   I try to slow things down on the weekends. Kind of catch my breath which is sometimes difficult to do. People appear to be always hurrying to get somewhere. I often think that they are missing the journey.   S

Dependence

I had called Verizon Thursday afternoon to complain about their coverage. It has gotten worse over the past 6 months. Areas which usually showed full bars now barely have two and sometimes the coverage is nonexistent.   The woman who took my call told me I had to update the SIM card in my iPhone and gave me explicit instructions which I followed...

Heat

It's breaking records just about everyday. Record heatwaves are a stark reminder of the urgent need to address climate change.   They impact our health, the environment, and our communities...we need to stay hydrated big time. My coaches used to tell me to "drink before you're thirsty." Great advice, so get yourself a tall glass of water.

A new restaurant model?
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Not sure if this will catch on, but I sat down to eat lunch at a diner of sorts. In order to get food or drink I had to use the QR code in front of me to place the order, which isn't unusual. However, before any server spoke with me or had any staff interaction I had to pay for my meal AND leave a tip!    Is this the new paradigm?    BTW, I looked

Only 93
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

I'll be lucky if I make it to 93, although I do know someone who has—my Mom.   Today is her 93rd birthday. We are having a family celebration this morning at the Sunrise Assisted Living Center where she has called home for over 8 years. Although she can't remember much, she has experienced a lifetime of memories that my sister and I now seem to hav

Cards

I was in a card store yesterday buying lotto and felt the sadness of not having to buy a Father's Day card. It's been over 12 years since he's passed.    Though standing there amongst the sea of cards, I felt grateful that I had the opportunity to develop a deep relationship with him. Because of his integrity, kindness, patience, and unconditional

Smokey Island

How ironic...this past week it was recommended that we wear N25 masks outside not inside. It wasn't too long ago that the recommendation was to wear them inside not outside.    Apart from the orange and smokey air which was eerie and fascinating, I hope this is not a foreshadow of things to come where we'll be wearing them all the time.

Every breath you take
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

As simple as it may sound, breathing is one of the greatest tools we have. We breathe about 25,000 times each day, without even thinking about it. Our breath not only sustains our life, it can also be used as a powerful instrument for stress management, mental clarity, and overall wellbeing.   Many of us don't breathe correctly which actually can h
