A day for the special moms
Posted By : Corey Bearak

Last year on this day, the #1 mom in my life — obviously the one I live with — got a surprise involving her son visiting our place with his then girlfriend now fiancé.  This year no surprise but a visit nonetheless.  After a campaign HQ opening — outdoors &  masked for my newest client, I returned to pick up Shelly and begin a drive to Amherst,

Some may have noted someone MIA....again... at the Gotham Happy Hour. Sometimes the logistics work not at all. The intention remains. Parental duties intervened. Our son yesterday moved into home number 10 yesterday morning; his parents helped him and his fiance finish their “exit” from downtown Brooklyn across Adams Street from where his uncle wor

About six weeks ago I was contemplating getting a haircut. I got three since the pandemic shut down barber shops and they re-opened. But then I got a call – it was March 11-- from my barber, Frank.   Pre-pandemic, actually well before it, Frank had sold his store but chose to stay around. He did not feel comfortable coming back when the shop re-ope

A Legend lost too early
Posted By : Corey Bearak

[Updated, April 21, 2021, & with good reason] Thursday evening just after 9:00 p.m. Jason Greenberg texts me “RIP Rusty, Tough loss” I read and think what Rusty. Even though Jason and I share an affinity for live music concerts, we connect on so many other levels, that music was not the first thing that came to mind upon reading his message. A

Opening Day

A year ago (plus) I had planned to go. A year ago it got postponed and then when time to proceed came, no fans allowed. This year I aimed to go. I did, but not as planned, The recent tradition – until the canceled year – involved a small group, including a family member, not always the same, some clients and friends. Groups could not play this year

Two Lane and more "highways"
Posted By : Corey Bearak

Driving last night, Safe At Home played on my A Good Feeling To Know Radio station on Apple Music. Interestingly, that Souther Hillman Furay tune that opened side two of the original vinyl served as the title of the blog a year ago today.   Right after, came Pure Prairie League’s Two Lane Highway. It made me wonder if my Songs of the Road playlist

Things will be better

A year ago I blogged about gathering virtually for Passover (and for others, on Easter). No one thought then we would still be dealing with COVID19, albeit with many of us “vaxxed” or on the way to be such. Nonetheless its a big deal that we were able to gather in our small but safe core. My daughter took care of making sure a new seder plate she p

As more of us get vaxed and the weather warms – after all we rejoice in the arrival of Spring today, one can envision a return of a summer concert season focusing on outdoor venue. Not sure yet on that as two concerts that were rescheduled to May got rescheduled to next fall. Indeed, many shows we planned to attend before the advent of COVID-19 got

Bicycle, bicycle, bicycle

Bicycle, bicycle, bicycle   I expected it to be a lengthy process to assemble yesterday but it was unwrapping process that I found excruciating. Shelly’s new bike – the first she owned since our marriage – arrived Friday eve. She ordered it as last week began after a discussion with our son’s fiancee` who got hers at the end of lat year. Assembly r

Drive My Car
Posted By : Corey Bearak

I looked at the blog last year at this time and read that I posted a new song list relating to driving. Apropros because my son got a first car a few days ago and yesterday embarked on his first road trip to enjoy his new device. I say device because my son remains a tekkie at heart – first in the family with a MacBook, iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch

I did not expect to follow last week’s blog welcoming the return of Mets baseball tomorrow. A Newsday article yesterday, a discussion at the Gotham Brad Scherer Happy Hour Friday eve and an email exchange with Mr. Title is Vital attorney and fellow tribal member Roy Fenichel induced today’s commentary; Roy even took the exchange to twitter after I

Gotta believe

Last year at this time I blogged with great optimism how things looked up for my baseball team.  The season that followed failed to meet my expectations, especially on the pitching side.  Lost Thor before the season started and Stroman opted out.  Pitching depth never overcame such a deep loss; it reverberated on the bullpen as usually happens.  No

Heartbeat of Love

On or after or sometimes before this day – always a Saturday eve, my (fraternal) lodge would hold a “sweethearts dance” and for the last couple of years it did not happen and a several couple got together on our own; this year the pandemic offered an easy excuse. Hopefully, next year will see its return. In the meantime on the first time Valentine’

Making it a super day
Posted By : Corey Bearak

On the eve on Superbowl LV, I think how different watching the game will be. It’ll likely be more of solo affair unless Shelly and I dine watching the beginning of the game (well we already ordered our meals yesterday so C’est possible at this writing). As shared on the eve of prior games, we join up with friends, sometimes in a diner in Brooklyn;

The Battle Must Go On
Posted By : Corey Bearak

This involves nothing political or otherwise.   Perhaps early but still excited because I know this show will go on. I miss live concerts. Followers of this weekly commentary know well this commentator’s enjoyment of live shows. So last Wednesday, I looked forward to a planning meeting for the return of the Gotham Battle of the Bands® this year. C
