A List That Just May Inspire (Enjoyment, mostly)
Posted By : Corey Bearak

This (as in today’s) blog found its voice or muse while reading my friend’s “Fridays with Fred” blog. I did a number of blogs around likes and more recently dislikes. My post comment raised lists as natural provocateurs of conversation. Recall all those top ten lists on late night show. Indeed Fred and I share a secret list aptly named and only

Summer Nights In The Park
Posted By : Corey Bearak

It’s Summertime and for this correspondent, it often means politics and anyone who checked out my Friday Promo via Gotham’s Promolistserve; but even more so it involves music; live music.   Summer nights in the park, and when the music would start Ooh what a time and then some [from When It All Began (POCO)]   Most years after Memorial Day I compil

I was at the pool when I peaked at my emails. My good friend Paul (the one married to Victoria) posted an alert from FOX News to Gotham RockRap listerve:   I knew Gregg was ill, had canceled his tour plans this year and was unable to play at his Laid Back Festival stop at Red Rocks in Colorado last fall (because Richie Furay played it and mention

Some people can boast of attending Woodstock or Monterrey Pop some renowned concert like George Harrison’s Bengla Desh shows at Madison Square Garden or the Allmans at the Fillmore East or The Band at the Academy of Music (Rock of Ages) or their Last Waltz, or No Nukes also at the Garden. Indeed movies chronicles many of the shows and most of the

Music Brings Us Together so join us at Gotham's Battle of the Bands®
Posted By : Corey Bearak

Next Sunday, one day following the First 100 days of the current administration, Gotham hosts its annual Battle of the Bands. Discussions about politics tend towards controversy and division. Music tends to bring people of different persuasions together.   Friday I posted the text of my presentation last Wednesday eve hosted by the Gotham Exec

Yes, they Belong, Who Else?

After basketball, I checked my mail quickly in my car. One email – from Rolling Stone (magazine) – shared links to a number of articles about the Rock and Roll Hall Fame Induction ceremony that took place at the Barclay Center in Brooklyn Friday eve.   Many years, the ceremony lacks interest for me. Folks who know me rather well including many

Don't Miss the 5th Annual Gotham Battle of the Bands® April 30 at the Legendary Cafe' Wha? Still some time to get your band in!   As Gotham welcomes Spring, we certainly look forward to a number of cool events. All You Need Is Love
Posted By : Corey Bearak

Back in the days of cassette tapes I created a special tape of love songs. I played it on my first date with Shelly. With Valentines Day approaching and many groups holding “Sweethearts Dances” this weekend or next, why not share some (most) of my fave “Songs of Love” and invite your suggestions.   Inspired by Friday blogger Fred Klein I previous

People comment about the music. All the time. They like the links. To songs. To bands. To lyrics. And more. They enjoy! Me too! No secret here music infuses my being and I find ways to insert it in my work and play and many things in between; that includes my writing. This commentary shares how an “innocent” post in a daily newspaper polit

Happy new year!   Last week I shared Songs To Ring in the New Year, even though the blog fell on The first day of Chanukah and Christmas Day (I served up my Holiday song list the previous Sunday.). If you expected to escape music from this muse, better stop here and move on. At the end of each year, for six years running, I post to my website comm

Happy New Year and Ring It In with some great songs.   Shelly and I wish everyone all the best as we approach the moment we ring in new year 2017.   And what better way than an updated list of “Songs To Ring In The New Year.”   I hope folks enjoyed my “Happy Holidays in song” playlist which I blogged about last Sunday.   Readers of that blog (c

Happy Holidays in song
Posted By : Corey Bearak

I no longer devote much time to any music station. I long for the days of WNEW-FM which enjoys a Facebook page. No matter what music station you would dial up on terrestrial radio, the weeks leading up to the holidays means music that reflects that spirit and themes. A few years back Gotham co-founder Fred Klein, knowing my love of music, encour

Last week the plan for today's blog would be to discuss those announced this past Thursday at Gotham Green® as the recipients of the Gotham Green Award® at a Luncheon next April in advance of Earth Day. Indeed this past week involved a have set of meetings; two major presentations sandwiched the Green announcement itself, and I did enjoy sharing m

All Right, Now

Many know my love of music and even of my preference among artists. Sometimes it permeates my work. My all-time fave song, All Right Now, dates back to when I was 14 going on 15. It upset me when Free broke up but a successor band with its drummer and lead singer, did not play that song in early concerts and not in any I attended in their latest

A Beautiful eve out
Posted By : Corey Bearak

Last week I shared plans to see the Broadway musical "Beautiful" last night for Shelly's Birthday.  Enjoyed the book and the music and how the lyrics of several songs really spoke to the things going on in the life of Carol King and first husband Gerry Goffin who passed in 2014.   Tapestry -- still have the LP -- played in iTunes for the ride home.
