A Bit of a Shock

A Bit of a Shock

I have been putting off upgrading my license to the Enhanced version.  I just could not bring myself to spend an entire  day at DMV to get it done.

I decided recently that it was time to “get over it” and just get it done.  Of course, I started to do my research.  I was determined to be so prepared when I walked in the door, that I was going to somehow win the “Most Efficient at DMV” award and get out quickly.

I went to the DMV website and found a page about upgrading my license.  On that page, I was able to sift through a series of questions which concluded with telling me exactly the information I needed to bring – including highlighting the tricky parts.  The last page collected all of the information I had gathered into a list of documents I needed which I happily printed.  Even the required application form was available as a link to a fillable document.  To make it even easier, I was able to make an appointment.

I was still not convinced the process was going to go smoothly.  I don’t know about you – but I have never had a DMV experience that wasn’t a bit of a nightmare.  Until now.

I drove up with all of my skepticism and a full cup of coffee. I brought reading material, my electronics and some work.  If I was going to have to hunker down and spend the day, I was going to be ready.

Much to my pleasant surprise, I spent a grand total of 35 minutes upgrading my license.  That’s it – in and out in 35 minutes.  To compound the experience, every single person I dealt with smiled, joked, said please and thank you -- and seemed genuinely interested in taking care of what I needed.

Look at that.
