the "un"certainty of life and Facebook
the "un"certainty of life and Facebook
On more than one occasion in the recent past, I have found out of the passing of someone close by virtue of a Facebook post.
Now, I know that for many, this is the best means to get the notice out to as many people as possible, but I would love to hear from others on the following:
I feel like if the decedent was a close relation, finding out from a social media post is NOT appropriate. As a matter of fact, for my own purposes, whenever I have had a need, I ALWAYS contact those closest before resorting to social media blasts.
How do you feel about this?
Hug those you love, never take a day for granted, and reach out frequently, because, as the saying goes, you never know when the last chance will pass you by!

Reaching out directly is…
Reaching out directly is best for close family. But social media reaches more people faster. There is usually a lot going on when someone passes and time is not always on your side to make direct calls to everone.
Thanks for sharing your Outlook on this
I believe you will be in the malority
Truly, you never know! …
Truly, you never know! Great blog!
Social media is a good back…
Social media is a good back up - I would think that close family and close friends would be notified personally via a phone chain. What often gets overlooked is taking the FB page of the deceased down. It's creepy to get friend suggestions for someone on the other side of the garden. A topic for another blog, perhaps.
I definitely feel all family…
I definitely feel all family members should be notified personally before the information is shared or posted ANYWHERE. I remember waking up to a condolence text from a family friend because my dad shared the news in a group chat with his buddies, in the wee hours of the morning, before calling the grandchildren. The rest of the world can wait a few minutes or hours!
