TWA

A few weeks ago, at a joint meeting of the Bandit and Health and Longevity groups, I reported on upcoming events and June 4th cocktails at the TWA Hotel at Kennedy Airport. I described the iconic former TWA terminal and, as I looked around the table at my fellow Gothamites, commented that the visit would be nostalgic for some and history for others.
The comment brought a chuckle or two.
But, as I thought about it, and considered the dichotomy — Nostalgia versus History— further, I realized that it is worthy of more than a chuckle. Something more significant to ponder.

I really wanted to be at the TWA cocktail event. I pass the building everyrime I fly into terminal 5 to NY on Jet Blue and always wanted to check it out.timing just didn't work as I will be in town the following week for our in person Gotham Queens meeting (and work or course).

Been before. Going again, to be with Gothamites.

The interesting thing about your observation is how quickly nostalgia becomes history....how quickly time flies. They say something becomes history after fifty years. Those of us who remember the TWA terminal...took off and landed there, have the living memory (nostalgia). Those who have only heard about the legendary 'up, up and away' airline, can only imagine the excitement. Next Wednesday, both groups can relive the spirit of an era.

It's a fun place, have been a few times. I suggest checking out the old 10 cent pay phones. They have the old school twister game and an interesting exhibit (you walk up stairs) chronicling the women's stewardess attire over the years, many of which was made by famous Italian designers.
