One of the things I love the most about Gotham is the plethora of options available to follow one’s passions and express oneself, that ventures well beyond business networking!

Friday happy hours, cocktail parties in the TWA terminal at JFK airport, pizza crawls, golf, bowling, Yankees at Mets games at Citifield, softball, sports blogs, “Gotham Green,” Encores and BOB aka Battle Of the Bands, just to name a few.

Last Tuesday night I had the privilege of attending the Neil Young concert at one of my favorite venues, Forest Hills Stadium, with the Gotham Networking Co-Founder and 2 esteemed Gotham Red Bandana winners!

This got me thinking about all the fabulous shows (1000+) that I have been blessed to experience over the years.  Attending live music is one of my favorite passions in the world and I have done so as far away as seeing Shirlyn and the UnXpecteds at Blackbirds in Singapore last month!

Before what I call “The Digital Age” we are in now, for years, I saved my concert ticket stubs in a drawer in my closet.  My childhood friend Phil (a concert ticket broker) still goes to the ticket box office and talks them into printing out his tickets to continue this tradition.

For the past 10 years or so, I kept a list (in my head) of the bands still touring that I most wanted to see at least once, calling it my Rock Bucket List!  My top 3 were Bob Dylan (seen last year at the Capital Theatre in Westchester), Neil Young and John Fogerty who we also saw in 2023 at the new Hartford Healthcare Amphitheater, coupled with a visit to Frank Pepe’s pizzeria (which was solid)!

Between attending those 3 bucket list shows, Battle of the Bands last weekend and the upcoming Rolling Stones show (with Jon Batiste) tomorrow night, to quote my good friend Jim (nicknamed Rev) Canavan, “My Heart is Full!”

That being said, as we move into “Concert Season,” my NEW top 2 bands still touring I haven’t seen are Pearl Jam and the Scorpions, who just started their residency at The Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas.

My questions to my passionate Gothamites are:

  1. Do you still have your concert ticket stubs?  and
  2. What are your top 2 bands that you haven’t seen who are still touring?

Yes, I have ticket stubs from 40 years ago. Loved seeing The Who at Shea Stadium and later at Giants Stadium. The many Stevie Ray Vaughn concerts I witnessed were all amazing. My bucket list has The Stones who we will see in Florida in a few weeks. I would still like to see Fogerty.

I have my '64 Beatles stub at Forest Hills and will text you a pic. Very very good maiden blog!

Over my lifetime I have saved all the ticket stubs for sporting events, mostly Yankee games. I have a big pile of them in my draw and one day I'll make a poster out of it that my kids can have. Unfortunately, in today's world you can't get the stub anymore. I have gone to the ticket window at Yankee stadium, and they can't print them. Most of the time you are getting the tickets from Ticketmaster, or another service and they are sent to your phone. Sucks for the older generation, the younger kids don't know any different.

For the first time ever, a week or two ago, Pearl Jam spent the morning on the Howard Stern show, they had never been on before. It's worth going back and watching or listening to it.

I have tickets for Pearl Jam at MSG in September. They put on a great show.
Michael Steger

I think I have tickets from my first couple shows -- Bowie, Grateful Dead, Squeeze, although not my very first (John Denver with my parents in 7th grade -- great show!). For the bucket list -- while Stevie Wonder is technically not a "band", he did play almost every instrument on several of his classic albums. He would top the list. For acts with multiple people: Goose (who I will see in June at FH) and Gaslight Anthem (hopefully at Asbury Park in September).
Shelley Simpson

Alas, much of my memorabilia including my album collection,, was lost in a flood - no, I was not around during the days of the Ark! My faves from the past are done and I rely on technology to keep me entertained by them, but my new ones are going strong. Go Pink! Gaga Rocks! And great Blog Dr. Robert!

A terrific blog Robert. You featured Gotham's Greatest Hits (thnx for Encores shout out), and your passion for live shows. I have some good ones saved including Stones in Newark and the Powder Ridge Festival which was cancelled way back in 1970. I haven't seen the Eagles and my wife is anxious to see Michael Buble! Enjoy the Stones. Didn't know Batiste is opening. I love him and have seen him twice and have tix for his Radio City Show in Sept.

I do not think I've missed anyone I've wanted to see but for the Buffalo Springfield reunion (blame Neil Young who canceled plans for a fall tour; I shoulda known and went to the west coast or Bonnaroo -- I do have video and audio of those four shows!)
