Tradition With a Song and a Dance

Tradition With a Song and a Dance

We celebrate Hanukkah and it comes with strong traditions.  First, we light the menorah and say the prayers that go along with this holiday.  Every year, we first engage in a continuing reminder about which direction to light the candles.

We follow the lighting of the candles by a particular song and dance.  I have been singing this song and dancing in this same circle since I can remember. I learned the tradition from my parents and it has certainly been passed on.

Whether my children are home with us and we sing and dance together, or we lean in to some virtual togetherness to perform the annual ritual, we always perform the ritual.

I am a fan of tradition.  Do you have any traditions around the holidays?

We light the candles, but no singing. That unfortunetly ended with the passing of my dad back in 1984. I do however give out a chocolate gold coin to everyone at the lighting. We do decorate the house for Chritmas as well, something my wife heads up every year.

Would love to hear the song. When the kids were young, we would hide their presents and play hot and cold with them. The grandkids don't quite get the concept but, as soon as they do, that would be reinstituted.
