Perennial Maskers

Perennial Maskers

I recently read an interesting article in New York Magazine. The subject of the article was the perennial maskers. The people interviewed for the story claimed that, even after mask mandates are lifted in New York and by the federal government, they would continue to wear their masks. Most of them agreed that they felt safe wearing masks and could see no reason to change that.

The article made me contemplate a mask free world. As most of us, I have been hiding behind the safety of my mask for over a year now. I realized that taking it off and going to public places like the supermarket and mass transit is going to feel very strange. And, I wondered, do I even want to?

I believe on some levels, for some people, masks are here to stay. Seeing people wear masks on the NYC subway will no longer be a strange sight in a post-Covid world. And I wonder whether I will be one of those people. I will be happy to remove my mask, at the appropriate time, in public places where I feel comfortable. Alternatively, however, I imagine always carrying one with me in the future to use when I feel uncomfortable.

Have you  contemplated  a mask free world?

I used to wonder about those few people who wore masks in subway. Little did I know!

I too likely will wear for awhile until I fee l comfortable. It may take some time to get heard immunity. But it definitely can't hurt in preventing even common colds. Something to think about.

In my business, wearing masks and constant sanitizing of hands has always been second nature. Asbestos, mold, bacteria, etc. require that safe measure be taken. Although I don't mind wearing masks inside public places for a few more months, I'm ready to put public mask wearing behind me unless it is truly necessary.

I have some really cute masks too!!! I am holding myself back from buying anymore.

Seems like there will soon be something akin to the accessories we can use to keep our eyeglasses handy - lovely mask chains, straps, and clips designed for keeping the mask available for a quick human breath avoidance maneuver.

It has definitely occurred to me that we were pretty healthy in my house this year. Aside from recognizing how blessed and lucky we were to have avoided serious COVID, there was no flu, no colds, etc. Masks?

Masks and no
touching meant no colds at all! But I do miss the "touching"...
