I learned at a very young age that there are two types of people in the world; those that like milk chocolate and those that like dark chocolate. And, the best marriages, are composed of one of each type of chocolate lover.
As mentioned last week, we are moving shortly. We have been very busy packing. We also have to paint two darker colored walls in our current townhouse with primer. There is a handyman we use for all sorts of things and we had asked him to do it. Then I thought why not do it myself and save a few hundred dollars. So I bought the primer and a roller and pan and cloth. Easy so far. I did one wall, rather nicely I must say. And then realized that I had not changed out of my nice jeans. Sure enough there was a splatter of primer on my nice jeans.
So a private company is in the process of finalizing their candidates for a one way trip to Mars. No I'm not kidding. Click here to see Mars One. They are selling broadcast rights, sponsorhips and crowdfunding to get it done. They'll start sending humans, four at a time, to Mars starting in 2024.
I was born in 1942 and some of my earliest trackable memories were about Jackie Robinson (his World altering debut-Rookie Year was in1947) and people exclaiming "As quick as Jackie Robinson". However, my first tangible memories were of "Uncle Miltie" in the late 40s and "I Love Lucy" in the early 50s. TV was new then and a sensation. We were even enthrall ed by the black and white test pattern on our channel 2-13 TV menu.  Somehow, Edward R. Murrow broke through too with his epic socially conscious "See It Now" on CBS.
My heart goes out to the family of Kayla Mueller. I am not sure that I can add anything to the story of her idealistic journey that brought her into captivity and death at he hands of ISIL. When I think of Kayla and her family -- when all this is seen through the eyes of parents -- the question of ransom cannot be far behind.
When the terrorist attack happened in France, the whole world united.  Politicians, butchers and bakers alike all gathered arm in arm in the streets posting signs and exclaiming "Je suis Charlie."  It was a no-brainer right? After all, it was us against the terrorists.
Consider this a movie review in advance.
