While tooling around the intenet for something positive, I ran across this list from Joshua Becker. In his blog, he writes "...the quickest way to find happiness is to help someone find theirs." I couldn't agree more.
1. Handwrite a letter.
2. FaceTime/Skype an old friend.
3. Buy coffee for a stranger.
4. Smile and joke with your next cashier.
5. Leave a nice tip.
6. Buy movie tickets for a family in your neighborhood.
7. Ask your religious friend about the story behind the season.
8. Invite someone over for dinner.
When I was young I was afraid of the dark and everything that went with it, imagined, real or suggested. So fearful that I had extreme trouble falling asleep. Yesterday was the winter solstice, the shortest (day light) day of the year.
If you’ve ever wondered whether your vote makes a difference, consider what’s going on in Virginia.
Three races for seats in the Virginia House of Delegates are in the midst of recounts. Yesterday morning the reports were that one of the candidates had a one vote lead. That one seat could also shift party control in the House.
(Yesterday afternoon the report was that another ballot had been found and the vote was tied.)
The takeaway? Every vote counts.
AIM went away this week. I admit to being among the last few using this old style means of communication. But, I really liked it. It was such a nice quick way of communicating.
In an effort to find a favorite blog for the Gotham Gazette I read a few of my older blogs. One of first blogs concerned an attempt to overcome a personal fear. Rereading the blog several years later inspired me to revisit the topic.
Last week’s blog “released” a list of holiday-themes tunes for the season we currently enjoy. Not sure everyone seeks to hear those themes but certainly they predominate on radio dials. My ears and sometimes my eyes focused elsewhere when I chose music.
After shopping at one of the suburban malls last night, I stepped out into the snowy slippery parking lot. Although I was in the mall a half hour at most, I needed to brush of the snow and scrape the ice off my car. A beautiful cold wintry night to be sure.
As my car rumbled to life I was grateful for the seat heater and heated steering wheel. Two great inventions everyone needs to experience at least once.
