Is Anyone Out There?
Posted By : Rona Gura

Every year this question comes up in the office. Are you coming in on Columbus? And every year the answer is the same, I’m not certain.   I’m in the office today, catching up on paperwork.   Are you in the office? Or do you take off on Columbus Day?

Lawn Speeding
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Now this is a record worth mentioning especially since I cut the lawn at my house. A British man broke a Guinness World Record when he built a riding lawn mower that reaches a speed of 143.19 mph.   Tony Edwards, a mechanical engineer from St. Martins, Shropshire, England, said he powered the lawnmower with a 1300cc unit from a Suzuki motorcycle.

Admit it!  You’re all Zoomed out and thirst for in person (Water Cooler) experiences.  Well Gotham gets it and delivers!  In the space of less than a month Gotham has held 3 in person (Water Cooler) events: the 9/11 Yankee/Met game at Citl Field, the 9/25 Picnic at Alley Pond Park and, best of all, our annual (except for last year) Bob Formica Memo

The Pitted Olive
Posted By : Benjamin Geizhals

We stopped for a late afternoon glass of wine. We ordered marinated olives with the wine - a justification that we wouldn’t be drinking on an empty stomach. The olives had their pits.As we ate, we commented that the olives - with pits - tasted better than others. I realized that with the pits you are forced to think about biting into the olive, mani

Sopranos Fans-Interested in the Prequel or Hoping for a Sequel?
Posted By : ODEY RAVIV

The Sopranos took the country by Storm in 1999 and left with a giant Question in 2007.   I was hooked and every Sunday was a must watch.  HBO subscriptions went through the roof.  Talking about the episodes on Mondays with co workers, family, and friends became a routine.  Even radio hosts took calls about the previous nights’ escapades and mysteri

Around the Corner

No, I am not trying to rush time away. To the contrary, I would like time to slow down just a little.   I read a news article the other day relating to the supply chain issues being faced in so many industries.  The premise of the article was to encourage readers to start their holiday shopping now.   I’m sorry, it’s barely October.  I haven’t even

My New Socks
Posted By : Rona Gura

As I have admitted in numerous blogs, I enjoy shopping for clothing, handbags and shoes. One item of clothing I never felt it necessary to spend an excessive amount of money on was socks. Generally, I buy my socks in three packs from Costco. I usually buy the most inexpensive socks that they carry in my size. That recently changed.   My husband a

Refreshing

Anyone else find the cool weather a welcome break?   True it's symbol of the coming winter that's predicted to be more snowier (is that a word?) than ever but last night I had dinner with my family outdoors and it felt great not to be sweating while eating :)   To me a sunny cool day is football weather. It reminds me of my playing days. I loved sm

Hats in the Closet

I reached for a hat in the closet and was showered by more than two dozen baseball-style hats, a few caps of various styles, and an assortment of other rimmed headwear.I knew that several head coverings had accumulated over the years, but the extent of the collection was alarming and a reminder that the time has come to clean and clear. But as I wen

Music has had an ubiquitous influence on our lives and culture forever. I put on music when I come home and when I get into the car.  Most shows, movies, and even commercials feature musical backgrounds.   Music stimulates, soothes, energizes, and generally makes us feel better. I got hooked on rock and roll via American Bandstand.  I purchased my

Newspaper Days
Posted By : Nancy Schess

You all know how much I treasure my LIRR commute and how much peace and calm it brings me.   I was reminiscing the other day about the old days when the morning newspaper was a part of the daily ritual.  Part of getting me through any particular commute was looking forward to reading the newspaper – newsprint on my fingers and all.  There was just

Leaving On A Jet Plane
Posted By : Rona Gura

Have you been on an airplane since March 2020? We flew to Florida over Labor Day weekend. Beside my usual flying anxiety (which has been discussed in many other blogs), I was additionally apprehensive due to all the news articles concerning unruly passengers and those that refused to wear masks. Our experience on both flights, however, was pleasant
