I've had the privilege of driving to New Jersey and Brooklyn this past week. Planning the trip to Brooklyn on Wednesday, Waze told me it would take about an hour from my house. It actually took over 2 hours...okay. However, I left the appointment at 2:30 and Waze came up with a 1.5 hour drive. It took over 3 hours.    Jersey could've been in a dif

Lawn Speeding
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Now this is a record worth mentioning especially since I cut the lawn at my house. A British man broke a Guinness World Record when he built a riding lawn mower that reaches a speed of 143.19 mph.   Tony Edwards, a mechanical engineer from St. Martins, Shropshire, England, said he powered the lawnmower with a 1300cc unit from a Suzuki motorcycle.

Refreshing

Anyone else find the cool weather a welcome break?   True it's symbol of the coming winter that's predicted to be more snowier (is that a word?) than ever but last night I had dinner with my family outdoors and it felt great not to be sweating while eating :)   To me a sunny cool day is football weather. It reminds me of my playing days. I loved sm

Tiny pocket
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

You ever wonder why there's a tiny pocket above the front pocket on some jeans?    I did so I consulted the oracle. Turns out it had a clear reason behind its creation. It’s just that we don’t use it for that reason today.   That small pocket originated back in the late 1800s with the first pair of jeans sold by Levi Strauss & Co and the re

A clear day
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

I remember looking out the window of my office and saying out loud "It's such a clear day, how could someone fly into the Word Trade Center?"   When the second plane hit the second tower, I was transfixed to the TV trying to understand what just happened.    The brave men and women on the ground and in the air responded. Welles Remy Crowther was on

Launching
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Funny thing about websites...you can test all you want (which we did on about 25 devices) but when you launch, it can be a totally different outcome. I've been battling some crazy issues this week which I did not expect. I believe (hope) we have ironed out most of them.   This new site was conceived over 2 years ago and I'm so happy it's finally li

Out of practice

I went away last week on vacation. No planes, just a stay in an Airbnb about an hour's drive away. Nice place, quiet and on the edge of a perserve so looking out of the back deck there were deer, rabbits and birds doing what they do.   It was hard for me to be present and disengaged from work. I tried a bunch of things. This was unusual because fi

Dragon's success
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

I admit, I've been enthralled with SpaceX's Demo 1 mission - launching the Dragon space capsule, dock with the ISS and safely reutrn it to earth. It's a prelude to sending astronauts to the space station from American soil for the first time since 2011.   If you didn't know, we been hitching rides for the past 8 years on Russian rockets for about $

Just yesterday I was having lunch with a friend of mine in a diner on Long Island. After we sat down, the owner came over and asked...did either of you drop $300 dollars?     I didn't but my friend checked his pockets and he was missing that exact amount of money. We were both blown away that this guy found it and brought it over.   Would you have

Discomforting paperwork
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

In a recent visit to the doctor (scheduled) I had to fill out a form to update/validate my information for 2019. Part of the questionnaire was this. I was quickly filling this out and after I checked White I started to feel a bit uncomfortable. Why is Ethnicity only Hispanic or Non-hispanic?   Why is Race only these four choices? The United States

37 years old young

Luke Hagerty. A name you might hear a few times during the upcoming baseball season.    What's so special is the fact he is 37 years old and throwing 99...he is the ultimate comeback story for baseball.   The Cubs just signed him 17 years after they drafted him in the first round. A great story of perserverance, focus and luck. Here's the full back

Shocking but true
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

My wife and I went to the movies last Saturday night. We saw A Star is Born which we both liked.     But that's not the real story....when we walked up to the ticket counter, I asked for two adults. And then we heard a shocking but true response from the young man behind the counter. "Senior Discount?"   We both looked at each other in shock and la

A new meaning for turf shoe
Posted By : Mitch Tobol

Thought this may bring a smile to your face or at least a shake of the head   Nike is releasing a wild iteration of the Air Max 1 Golf...yes, grass sneakers. Nike may need to refocus it's creative team, or give them a huge bonus...I'm not sure.    Dubbed the Nike Air Max 1 Golf "Grass," this wild style features a deep green turf-like upper, with g
