My mantra for the coming year seems to be: "I will not stand idly by." I think it originates in the Bible from Leviticus, I'm no expert in that department. For me it means that I will stay aware of my own life, my own home, my own "village," my own country and my own planet. I will not stay quiet when injustices are happening. I will speak up and take action. So, I have pretty good friend who just shared on the Facebook, that he loves to stop and eat at Chick-Fil-A when he tr...

So I told this story at the MAD meeting yesterday, but I thought I'd share it here as well. My wife was reading the NY Times and saw a book she wanted to read, went to the library, that book wasn't available, she got another by the same author, loved it , googled what the author was writing about, and we ended up in Costa Rica riding shoeless, bitless horses through the jungle. Astounding experience, but thats not the story. I friended the woman leading the "workshop" on Face...

It's no surprise that everything around us, effects us. I've found this to be increasingly evident in my Facebook feed. Like a garden it needs frequent weeding. Or, since I'm a filmmaker, it needs good editing.   The hostility this election cycle has revealed is quite upsetting to me. I know logically that there is so much more hope and joy in the world than can be found in the nightly news, the front page of the newspaper or my old Facebook feed. For me, there is nothing ...

Steve Jobs was ridiculed for wanting to open Apple Stores. They have proven to be ridiculously successful.   The Taxi drivers fought so they wouldn't have to  accept credit cards. Now its one of their greatest money makers.   The Real Estate developers wanted to tear down the High Line because they thought it would lessen the value of their property. It has only increased (by huge amounts) the value of their properties.     There's a  rumour that George H. W. Bush is going t...

I heard this week of a great loss. No well known celebrity this man, but loved by many many people. I had only met him once, but knew then of his light and joy and brains and loves. I am moved too because I love those who loved him. We miss you, Edward. Death Before us great Death stands Our fate held close within his quiet hands. When with proud joy we lift Life’s red wine To drink deep of the mystic shining cup And ecstasy through all our being leaps— Death bows his head ...

For the first time in my 29 years with my super talented bride, Sheilagh Weymouth, we are separated by more than a few days. Or even a couple of weeks. She has gone to California to star in the Tony awarded play, Vanya & Sonia & Masha & Spike at the Sierra Rep, playing Sonia. I am thrilled for her, but it is a strange, freeing, sad, joyous, lonely, creative, monastic, interesting time for me. I will be flying out in a month to see the show, but until then, no wife...

Want to be more productive? Take a nap! From the Daily Mirror: "If you've ever suffered from a post-lunch lull, the workplace of the future might be just your thing - as nap rooms will feature in the office landscape. The idea of a place just for a snooze during the working day has been floated by Arianna Huffington, businesswoman and journalist. She says that the productivity of those who are well-rested makes the idea of a sleepy space a no-brainer - and has even launched a...
