My granddaughter Maggie recently celebrated her birthday and, as she was born in the year 2000, it got me thinking.

Inasmuch as the 21st century commenced on January 1, 2001, she, and all others born in the year 2000, are uniquely situated to become Tricentenarians!

When she celebrates her 101st birthday, it will be at the dawn of the 22nd century, in the year 2101!  Quite a unique accomplishment!

Too bad I won't be around to celebrate with her :)

Fred,
Isn’t it grand having grandchildren of that (or any other) age? I have one who turns 26 in October (he’s in law school!). Youngest is 8.
Respectfully, I beg to differ on when the 21st century began, however: you don’t start your life, begin it, when you turn one - rather, you’ve just completed your first year of life. January 1, 2001, similarly, marks the beginning of the second year of the century (& millennium’s) life; the end of the first year was on December 31, 2000, & the end of the second year of the new century/millenium takes place on December 31, 2001. And so forth.

Maybe you will! You’ll just have to find more highway markers.
