I was recently chatting with a friend about the traits that make for success. The premise of our conversation was to be profession or vocation agnostic and try to get down to what traits cross all types of work and are the bedrock of a successful career.
My answer was curiosity. To be successful at whatever you choose, I think you must be curious about everything – the people around you, the work you do, why things work and don’t work, new developments as much as history, etc.
Did you ever think about practicing being curious? That process reminds me of conversations with my son when he was three or four years old – and “conversation” is a generous description. For a phase, to everything we said, he asked “Why?” Now, I look back, and see that question as the groundwork to learning and practicing curiosity.
What trait do you think forms the bedrock of success
