Talking in class...
Talking in class...

I used to get in trouble for talking in class when I was in grade school. In high school, my German teacher gave me detention for talking too much in class. Although she said, we could talk as much as we wanted, as long as it was in German. She lied. In college, I taught aerobics and kickboxing-now I was shouting for an hour straight! Maybe talking in class is a sign of some other skill set? My son is a talker. He could talk the ears off a brass monkey. Hmmmmm.. The art of communication. The art of framing thoughts and crafting argument through linear dialogue. I like talkers, especially the ones that listen too. The gift of gab begins as a wee kiddo. I know there are lots of lawyers in the Gotham house. Did you get in trouble for talking out of turn, in class? If you did, I’m curious...what profession did you choose? ...

As the saying goes, we were given two ears and one mouth, so we should listen twice as much as we talk! I was always a big talker too. And got in plenty of trouble for it! Now: Lawyer, Professor, executive coach focusing in all on mostly communication skills. LOL My dad made me go to law school, because as he said, “What are you going to do with an English Literature degree? Open a Shakespeare store?” Maybe they all knew something I didn’t!

I did get in trouble, but also became a good listener after serving many seats to the back of the class. My talking was more likely joking around and probably disturbing the flow of class. I was never a great student in grade school. But I did become a great listener and I think that helped my careers in retail and now in outside sales. So yes, a direct correlation I believe.
