Reaching Our Goals

Reaching Our Goals

At my Weight Watchers meeting this morning (a blog about Weight Watchers will follow in the upcoming weeks) we were discussing goals. Obviously, most people in the room share a common goal, to lose a certain amount of weight. The discussion centered around how to reach our goal weight.

The consensus was that, in order to reach a hefty goal, one shouldn’t focus on the ultimate goal. Rather, for Weight Watchers purposes, it would be better to set smaller goals, i.e. lose five pounds, until you reach that ultimate goal.

In listening to discussion, I realized this philosophy would be applicable beyond Weight Watchers. Sometimes, when we set goals for ourselves, i.e. build our businesses, it might be more effective to set smaller goals, i.e. publish more on social media until you reach the larger goal of building your busness.

How do you reach your goals?

Broken down into bite size pieces. My daily task list, followed by monthly tasks and finally quarterly lists. Boy do I love CROSSING things off the list. Sometimes the thrill of crossing out the goal is just as sweet as reaching the goal itself.

One at a time. But I like to write them down.

Smaller nuggets yield to larger results. Large goals become too difficult and daunting. Less likely to stick to them.

I set monstrous goal and then break it into steps.

I have recognized that charting smaller goals leading to the larger goals not only sets a more realistic framework, ticking off each goal as it is reached provides s positive framework for moving forward

I set small goals AND celebrate the accomplishments along the way. Progress is something to be proud of. Plus acknowledging the small wins along the way makes the journey more fun.
