If I’m running a bit slow this morning it’s because I stayed up last night to watch the Oscars. And while I love the show itself, it’s really the walking of the red carpet that I love the most.

I am not sure why I enjoy watching the celebrities but it is an annual tradition for me. I pour myself a glass of wine, sit in front of our high definition television with whichever child will tolerate watching with me, and enjoy my guilty pleasure for the next few hours.

I never realized what a huge event it was for me until last year when we happened to be in Los Angeles sight seeing a week before the Oscars. As we turned onto Hollywood Boulevard, the red carpet was already out and set up for the big night. I insisted that we go into the Dolby Theatre and take as many pictures as possible. And while the red carpet itself was covered with paper, I did manage to find a small uncovered piece on which I placed my foot. I was thrilled.

This year’s red carpet did not disappoint. I love color. So, I really appreciated most of the gowns on the carpet including those worn by Sandra Bullock, Jenifer Lawrence, and Amy Adams. One of my favorites was the blue Prada gown worn by Lupita Nyong’o. And while I may not remember next year whether she won the Oscar, I will remember what dress she wore. Although, my love of color did not extend to Liza Minnelli’s blue hair.
