I cannot believe that “The Rocky Horror Picture Show,” is turning fifty.  

To me, it’s still as weird, wild, and wonderful as ever. What started as a quirky midnight movie has become a cultural phenomenon, complete with costumes, props, and cult status. Fans across generations still gather to throw toast, dance the “Time Warp,” and just have fun.  Apparently, it flopped at the theaters but continued to run, continuously for fifty years, at midnight screenings throughout the world.

The first time I saw it, I was a college student, and they were showing it outside on campus. As a newbie, I did not know what to expect.  Needless to say, I left the showing covered in rice, toilet paper etc. but extremely happy that I had gone. I went every year after whenever the movie came to my campus, and a few times to the Uniondale Mini Cinema, but always armed with my own toilet paper.

If you’ve seen it, I’m sure as you’re reading this blog, you’re hearing the song “Sweet Transvestite” in your head. Am I right?
