Music has had an ubiquitous influence on our lives and culture forever. I put on music when I come home and when I get into the car.  Most shows, movies, and even commercials feature musical backgrounds.

Music stimulates, soothes, energizes, and generally makes us feel better. I got hooked on rock and roll via American Bandstand.  I purchased my first 45 records , the small ones with the big holes, way back in 1958.

The first batch were: Peggy Sue by Buddy Holly, Be Bop Baby by Ricky Nelson, Great Balls of Fire by Jerry Lee Lewis, Rock and Roll Music by Chuck Berry, and At the Hop by Danny and the Juniors.  I still have the first three!!  And I remember how mad I was at my brother when he broke the Chuck Berry record, “accidentally”.

I received the first album that I cared about, as a present. It was Meet the Beatles in 1964.  I have been buying and saving my LPs, Cassettes, and CDs since then.

What was the first Album or Song that you bought?

Fats Domino (whose name Chubby Checker appropriated)
Shelley Simpson

We had the classical music collection from the supermarket as a purchase offer. My personal first purchased 45 was "It's My Party" by Leslie Gore and the first album I purchased was Elvis' "Loving You."

The Hollies Carey Ann at a school sale. I must have been in 2nd or 3rd grade and had no idea who the Hollies were, but the 45 probably cost me .25 and that's what I had that day. My first album that I purchased, knowing the group, was Boston, their 1st album. Purchased it at Alexanders in Kings Plaza mall Brooklyn. The good old days. My 2nd album was the Beatles White Album.

Which Fats? Didn't Elvis do a cover of a Fats song? I remember Leslie Gore's hits Shelley. Glad to elicit some beautiful musical memories from Dan and Victoria.
