Happy 250th Birthday America
Today, we celebrate America turning 250 years old. That is not just a milestone, it's a reminder that this country began as a bold and dangerous experiment, born out of resistance to a king’s oppression and the belief that people should not be ruled without representation, dignity, or consent. The founding generation did not simply complain about tyranny. They took a stand against it, knowing full well that the cost could be their fortunes, their freedom, and their lives.
The men who signed the Declaration of Independence were not signing a symbolic document from a place of safety. They were committing an act of defiance against the most powerful empire in the world. Almost all of them suffered financial ruin, threats of hanging, imprisonment, loss of property, and personal hardship. They understood that liberty was not handed down by a government. It had to be claimed, defended, and preserved through sacrifice.
Two hundred and fifty years later, America is imperfect, complicated, and still evolving.
I think that is part of the experiment...the promise of America has never been that we would get everything right. The promise is that we have the freedom and responsibility to keep working toward something better. As we celebrate this historic anniversary, we should remember that independence was not inevitable. It was earned by courage, protected by the ultimate sacrifice, and is now entrusted to every generation that follows.
