Are You Adventurous

Are You Adventurous

Columbus Day is here, giving us a chance to celebrate exploration, discovery, and the courage to sail off into the unknown.

Of course, these days, most of us consider it an adventure just to drive somewhere without GPS. I am not the adventurous type.  I even have the GPS on every morning on my way to work, just in case. . . .

History, however, has certainly changed how we view Columbus, but one thing remains true: getting lost can lead to some interesting discoveries. So, when was the last time tried something unknown—or at least tried a new restaurant without reading 47 reviews first?

I have found that having the map going has increased my "discovery-driving". Let's say I'm out driving just for enjoyment on a weekend, but with a destination in mind. With the map set to give me directions to that destination, I know that I can make a "wrong" turn at any time and the map will update. I use this as my way of feeling safe in experimenting, and I have discovered many routes to destinations and much more enjoyable routes as well - smaller roads, scenic, etc. An added bonus is that I have found that off-highway or lesser-highway routes are frequently just as fast or faster (avoiding accidents, holiday traffic, etc.), and way more interesting and relaxing.
