The perfect Gift

The perfect Gift

I know the holiday season is about so much more than giving gifts. But sometimes, when you give the perfect gift, it just warms your heart.

Giving the perfect gift isn’t about the price tag, but about how well you understand the person receiving it. The most meaningful gifts reflect shared memories, inside jokes, or something the person would never buy for themselves.

One of my daughters loves the classic smiley face. She has original candles, from the 60’s with the smiley face, a book outlining the history of the smiley face, as well as slippers with a smiley face. In looking for a Hanukkah gift for her this year I found a very classic looking sweater. When you looked at the back of the sweater, however, instead of the classic tweed elbow patches I expected to see, there were smiley patches on the elbow. I immediately purchased the sweater.

When I gave her the sweater, she first looked at it questioningly. When she turned it around and saw the smiley elbow patches, her face broke out into the hugest smile and gave my husband and I giant hugs. Her response to the gift made our hearts sing.

What’s the most memorable gift you’ve ever given or received, and what made it so meaningful?

One year Bill bought me a Kitchen Aid stand mixer.  Some might think, not romantic.  But, I had wanted one really badly and he knew it.  He then went out and shopped to find me the right one, wrapped and hid it from me until my birthday.  I loved that stand mixer.
