Tipping

Tipping

It has occurred to me that one measure of how fortunate I am is that I am able to afford to dine out at restaurants and be served by others.

More and more, I identify with the server, asking for his or her name and engaging with them throughout the meal.

By definition, the server's job is analogous to servant and that relationship activates my sense of empathy, there for the grace of happenstance or whatever, goes me!

Fortunately, our system allows us to reward the server with a tip.

Tip is an abbreviation for To Insure Proper Service, but it is far more. It is, in my opinion, a mechanism to level the socioeconomic divide.

The purpose of this blog is to promote more (much needed) generous tipping. Not just 20%, why not 30%?

What's more, at breakfast, when the check is lower, but the serving work the same, even more!

Also, when at a hotel, always put cash in that envelope-every day!

Finally, tip cash whenever possible, to insure the purity of the transaction (TIPT)!

PS: Did you ever noticed how generous working people are with their cash tips into the jar?

Fantastic! I generally go 25% – 30%. And how great is it that these service people don’t have to pay income taxes on their tips anymore! Now they are making an extra 30% on that 30%!

Great Blog! JJ Watt, the NFL player is getting alot of press on this topic this week. Check it out. Just last night I was out and the had an ongoing conversation with our server throughout the meal and was told that if the tip was on the credit card the resturant scalps a % of it under the premise of absorbing the CC fee which i was surprised to hear since the customer is absorbing the fee.

There's no such thing as overtipping. I don't understand the thought process of those who meticulously calculate 15% of the pre-tax bill. I usually tip in the 25 - 30% range, on the final bill, with rare exceptions up or down.

I was once a waiter and before that a busboy so I know the value of tips.  The hourly pay then was really bupkes.

I also delivered wine and liquor for or family's store in Forest Hills.

#1 I tip cash

#2 I have a minimum tip in line with your point on less expensive meals

#3 Tipping service workers of all kind is something important to me

The main reason I carry cash is to be able to tip cash
