The phrase titling this blog comes from lyrics in a John Lennon tune. If I just chose the first two words, it recalls the title of The Doors’ second LP, Strange Days, featuring their second hit, “People Are Strange.”   We keep reading how less busy those not working in “critical” aka “essential” functions find themselves. Perhaps. Not here. Since things came to a head one would think some us would have more time. In meetings of my Gotham Network (which hosts this and six othe...

I had looked forward to to a few road trips – well long rides – using my songs of the road playlist but it seems like many plans a lot of us looked forward to – Postponed. Indeed, over the last few week, many events I helped planned and/or planned to attend got the new “P” word; in a few circumstances, another word applied – “canceled.” I prefer postponed.   In any event, this applies in all facets of my world, professional, networking, non-profit, fraternal, recreation (over...

Had some friends over yesterday. The “gathering” centered around the need to review and update some membership records in my home Knights of Pythias Lodge. Since Bob needed to come in from New Jersey, the original plan was he’d come with his wife who’d join my wife for some shopping. The plans grew to include two other couples. Dinner was to follow. Interestingly, the girls just chose to socialize; their call. Bob and I completed our work rather efficiently so my office which...

An interesting week ended yesterday. My (football) team grossly disappointed (again)! A couple of parties. My (basketball) team unceremonious dumped its coach. I earned some CLE credits A very nice show. A couple of dinners out with good friends. My (baseball) team anticipates an ownership change that excites a lot of folk. Just let’s say when I decided to put on my Mets baseball cap a couple to time over the last several days, I consciously indicted the seasons of the Knicks...
Last week I needed to prefile my blog. Simple reason. A flight from Edinburgh, Scotland to JFK. One might call it a classical trip. It involved an awful lot of rock.   My daughter and I landed a week ago Monday and promptly visited two castles, Hampton Court and Windsor.   Tuesday involved the musical variety: a classic rock/ Beatles tour (See pic at left) and a Squeeze concert at the most beautiful venue I ever took in a show, Royal Albert Hall.  Of course on way way to the...
I find my calendar app a saving grace of sorts. Pre-computers I relied on a papers calendar and things to do lists. The early calendars on computers never worked for me and I created my own as a text document going from Wordperfect to Word to OpenOffice (my preferred Office app). Eventually moving to an iPhone and a Mac, I found comfort in a real calendar App that offered my the ability to include as much information as I found necessary and useful in any calendar entry. This...
It’s a secret!   Not the event. It appears on a couple of calendars found on line – at the New York Grand Lodge Knights of Pythias website’s “Pythian Events” link and on the host FDR Lodge 613 website calendar.   But telling what happens remains a no go. All I can share about the event is I organized it so friends I play basketball with in Floral Park, Queens can fulfill their obligation to “take the ranks” as members in our Lodge that covers their twice weekly basketball.   ...
I do not recall feeling like this last fall. Perhaps because I had most of the summer 2018 to ease into things. All I know is some sort of void exists. My team plays no longer. The only recent event involved a firing of the manager. On the other hand Friday's blogger’s team still plays. I find I really miss watching my team and attending the games.   While I plan to be there Opening Day 2020 and already took 145 RSVPs between Gotham City Networking and my FDR Lodge 613 Knight...

It’s the name of a Neil Young compilation from 1977 covering 1966-1976.   A ten-year period that gives some meaning to a relationship many in Gotham believe spans a time much longer.   It involves Gotham and I did not even mention it at the Picnic which included a competitive softball game that ended on a controversial play: a ball rolling foul got picked up while still fair but ruled foul and being a third swing playing three swings, became the final out.   If fair, we scor...
It’s a new beginning today.   Yes my Jets start their season this afternoon with many of us holding rather high expectations, especially for the offense. I certainly plan to tune in this afternoon. But today’s blog covers another re-boot of sorts.   This beginning involves a homecoming of sorts.  A return to New York. Several years ago our daughter, Marisa, and friend Nicole took off for L.A.  It was a nice road trip and pictures, emails and texts were shared throughout.  The...
