Today, I’ll be marching. Not against anyone, but for something I believe in deeply...our country and the Constitution that holds it together.
I know we don’t all see things the same way. We come from different backgrounds, vote differently, and carry our own ideas about what America means. But I think most of us still believe (I hope) in the same foundation, that no one is above the law, that freedom belongs to everyone, and that our government exists to serve the people, not the other way around.
That’s why I’m marching.
Not because I’m angry at my country, but because I love it too much to be quiet. I believe in what this nation stands for. It's what I was taught and experienced growing up. It's about fairness, truth, accountability, and compassion. I believe in respectful disagreement and in the strength of our democracy when we use our voices peacefully.
This isn’t about Democrats or Republicans or Independents. It’s about Americans, every one of us. Even the knucklehead that cut me off on the road today:)
We can debate policies, candidates, and issues. That’s part of democracy. But the Constitution is our common ground. It’s the promise that every citizen matters equally. That power has limits. That we get to shape the course of our country, together.
So tomorrow, I’ll walk beside people who may not share my political views, but who share my love of this place we all call home.
I’ll walk for the generations before us who built this democracy and those who died for it.
I’ll walk with the hope that we can remember how to disagree without hatred, to question without tearing down, and to believe without blind loyalty.
Because loving your country means never giving up on what it’s meant to be.
