We had an interesting- and long-conversation over dinner last night. My stepson, who is in his third year of law school but already has a job offer from a large, prestigious New York law firm, was contemplating getting a new credit card. He was torn between three options, one that would give him hotel points, one card associated with an airline that would give him flight miles as well as a free checked bag on every flight, or one that gave him cash back. It was a long and interesting discussion.

I remember when I was in his position. I was in my third year of law school, with a job offer from a prestigious (Nancy, is that the right word?) law firm, and considering various credit card options. Although, at that time, my options were not as varied. There were no rewards for using credit cards. I just had to look at interest rates and where the card was accepted. Back in those days, Diner’s Club was a well-known card which I believe was only accepted at restaurants.

What benefits are associated with the card you use?
