What Movie Should I See?
What Movie Should I See?

I love watching the Oscars. I enjoy watching the show to see the different gowns the people in the audience will be wearing. I am also interested in the awards themselves, to see whether I will agree with “The Academy’s” choice of best picture, best actor etc. And, if I haven’t seen a movie that received awards, I will tend to see it after the Oscars.

I am also an avid reader of movie reviews. Often, when a movie is first released, I will read the reviews before deciding whether to see the film. Bad reviews often impact my decision whether to see a film.

Interestingly, my husband, on the other hand, is the opposite. He never watches the Oscars. He, also, will never read a movie review. He feels that his decision to see a movie is solely his; no review or award will affect his decision whether to see a movie.

What do you think? Do awards or reviews impact your movie viewing? Or, are you like my husband, an independent movie goer?

If the topic interests me I'll look to see the movie. Sometimes a movie may not be up to par but the cinematography or some other feature make the experience worthwhile

I hate all awards shows as over the years they have become too political for my taste. I am more like your husband. I may glance at the movie sales for a given movie and determine if the topic is something interesting, then I will see it. Not a fan of most reviewers either.
As I rarely go to a theater anymore, I did see Ford vs. Ferrari with my son and we both loved it.

I'm not an awards show fan but I keep a list of the nominees for best pictureon my phone -- and watch those movies all year long. Jo Jo Rabbit. Great movie.
