We packed a deck of cards, Scrabble and books for our long holiday weekend in the Berkshires. The weather app was predicting a likelihood of rain and we wanted to be prepared.

The cards, Scrabble and books came home unused. With the exception of brief localized thunderstorms in late afternoon on two days, the weather was perfect.

Maybe I read the app wrong.

But when I checked with others, my suspicions were confirmed. The forecasts were, quite simply, wrong.

My brother in law gave up looking at weather forecasts years ago. Maybe I should do the same?

When I have a game and rain is forecast I track it hour by hour and notice shifts.

I find Wunderground and noaa to be pretty accurate, but winds change, tides turn, no one is infallible.

Ah, but isn't it wonderful when instead of rain you have perfect weather? We visited friends in the Berkshires a few weekends ago and were prepared for a weekend indoors, happy to at least be spending time with them, and were delighted to enjoy a rain free weekend exploring the towns WHILE enjoying time with our friends.

We've found that Weather.com is better than the app that comes with your phone. Glad the sun came out for you!

Look for the weather fronts and position of Low and High pressure. High pressure brings sunny skies and is hard to move out . It usually takes a strong low to push it east . Maps in motion on the weather channel app are very accurate . If you see a cold front approaching think of quick heavy precipitation whereas a warm front brings sustained low ceilings !
