The Line
The Line

The line wasn’t quite around the long block. It certainly wasn’t as bad as we had seen earlier or the day before or as we witnessed the next day. The rain and mist had stopped and it was a bit milder.
Everyone was wearing a mask and the line moved steadily. People in pairs were in conversation while those alone were preoccupied with their phones.
Within twenty minutes, we were inside and directed to a table for registration and the task at hand. Thirty minutes after getting on line, we were done.
Early voting in 2020, the time of pandemic. A memory that will last. Our little part in history.

I voted last Saturday for the first time ever on Long Island. I was used to somewhat long lines in Manhattan and was pleasantly surprised that like Ben, we were in and out in 20 minutes. Now we can only hope that there is honest voting throughout the country and the better person wins.

I am planning to vote on Election Day. I have never waited more than 15 minutes on Election Day, so I have no interest in waiting on long lines before that historic day. Just my opinion.

It took us about an hour and 15 minutes to vote at the Plainview JCC on Monday at 1pm. By Election Day it will probably be far easier.

My question is why are placing reporting 3-5 hour wait times then?

I believe the fervor to vote and vote early was underestimated by NY area election boards. Otherwise, more facilities would've been open. I voted absentee and already verified my ballot is received and in queue.

90 minutes of time well spent waiting to vote last Sunday. I've never voted early before. Back in MI I used to be 1st or 2nd in line. I waited in line in FL to vote. And there were years when I used an AV ballot. I have to say this was the most memorable thus far. I wonder what things would be like if turnout had been like this in past elections.

We voted on Sunday in Roslyn, it took an hour. My daughters joined me and it was a wonderful uninterrupted hour spent with them. In the midst of a pandemic and amazing unrest there was a positive, and I even got to meet my new grandpuppy. First time ever I got a sticker which I wore proudly on my mask.

I also voted on Tuesday at the Plainview JCC. Took about 45 minutes, no big deal. Listened to music on my phone while I read on my kindle. no big deal. While I have voted in every election for the past 50+ years, this one felt a little special. I have fond memories of bringing my kids with me into the booth and letting them pull the lever.
