Tech nightmare

As I write this blog on my phone due to my technology nightmare, please forgive any spelling or gramtical errors.

I had been in NY last week to enjoy the Gotham golf dinner as well as visiting some of my clients and prospects. On my last day on Thursday, with plans of catching up on data entries from the visits I made as well as a few last minute client visits, I discovered my laptop was not letting me authenticate in. Panic ensued and a co-worker got me throught to IT support who indicated I was in good standing as an active employee of Xerox and my company password was up to date. They were escalating it up and opened a ticket. I knew this was not good.

My manager suggested I get to the closest Xerox office which for me by car, was in Hauppauge to plug into our network there. That was an hours drive further east. That ended any plans of last minute visits. I got to the office, and of course I still couldn't log in. Without this, I was a fish out of water. None of my data bases could be reached. I could not get needed info for my clients or process any orders or do any data entry, which for me is a several hour a day task.

I decided to head back west and make a few stops for some treats for my wife and neighbors (bagels, bialys, and rainbow cookies from Polermos in Brooklyn).

The next day at my home office, the barage of IT support people all tried various attempts, with me on my phone, camera on, so I could walk them througjb what I was seeing. Nothing worked and by 4pm, it was decided, I needed a new computer. It was supposed to be overnighted so I could get it on Saturday and be cought up by Monday. But I got an email saying a UPS delayed flight would mean no computer until Monday...Ugh!

So for the first time since my vacation to Alaska back in early June, I did not work anytime during the weekend, a positive Insuppose. But Monday was the day to try and  catch up and reset

We rely on technology more and more, but if it fails, we feel the pain. I don't think that will ever change.
