We have a marble solitaire game on our coffee table. It’s a big handsome wooden board with beautiful glass oversized marbles.
It has always been an attraction to visitors, especially our grand children. As each gets older, their interest moves from observing and spinning the marbles to actually taking on the challenge of the game — with the ultimate goal of leaving only one marble in the center.
Each child, at his or her own pace, would venture ahead. As we would watch in fascination - and resistance to offering suggestions-as the young minds figured it out.
Often you learn more from watching than doing. And you appreciate that they are nurtured by encouragement without interference.
Listen when they say “let me do it myself”.
