Silver Linings
Silver Linings

Last night we “facetimed” with Bill’s cousins. These are wonderful people we haven’t seen in years.  They live across the country.   But in light of everyone hunkering down, they reached out to try to connect.

So, as a bright spot in an otherwise tumultous day, we all got together, my kids and all, to catch up – with sound and video. It was so nice to hear about family and life and all of those good things.

Quite honestly, I’m not sure we would have made this connection back without our current situation.  And as a result, our 30th anniversary trip out west that I have been planning in my head just expanded with an invitation to visit.

Although there is certainly a cloud above us right now, anyone else have a silver lining they would like to share?  It might just brighten someone else's day.

The ever growing sense of community which will crest when this is over and we rush out into streets and embrace each other!

In my case, and I blogged about it — https://www.gothamnetworking.com/blogs/entry/Postponed - this past Sunday, it allowed meetings I’d not make and “gave” me back my travel time to apply to other uses, and perhaps some circuit rides I’d not routinely make.

Like you Nancy I have now 'connected' with family I had not 'seen' in many years. Sunday I was part of a Zoom 50th Birthday party, that included cousins who now live in Sweden. Were it not for the current state of our world we would not have done this, and it was very emotional in a positive way. Last night I participated in my Weight Watchers meeting also via Zoom, great group support, and by coincidence watched the movie "Silver Lining Playbook" which I had never seen. I still yearn to connect personally, especially with my Mom who tomorrow will be 86! Have never missed her B'day; trying to ge my Sis (not techie) who lives with Mom to set up Zoom. Want to celebrate with Mom while we see her sisters that are so far away. Since we've never done this, it is definitely a Silver Lining.

I love that people are connecting and reconnecting in real-time. Seems like priorities are shifting as people start paying attention to things we have taken for granted. I believe this will be a long term benefit. Many people are also realizing just how resilient and adaptable they are. I am excited to see where all this leads and happy you have another place to visit.

Learning how to Webex and Zoom as this well likely be the new norm even after the virus. Also taking extra training courses in my field at Xerox. Always good to sharpen the axe.

I am scheduled for a zoom call tomorrow to celebrate a friends dad's 90th birthday. He recently lost his wife and we have all cancelled plans to see him.

I am so excited to "remotely" celebrate with him, family and friends!

Perhaps on a more somber note, I finally pulled together all the important info my family would need if something happened to me (bank account numbers, insurance info, etc.) into what I call a "Life Instruction Manual." This is something I'd been thinking about doing anyway for a long time and now it's done!!

Appreciating the small things. Beauty, connection, but also other things we often take for granted. Hot water, power, good movies. Having time to knit a sweater!
