This was the conversation in our house recently. 

Did your academic schooling prepare you to practice your chosen profession or craft?  So far, the answer is maybe a little.

My answer was that law school did not teach me how to practice law but it did teach me how to think and to write, in the end core qualities to practice the profession. 

That said, it did not teach me how to work well with clients and keep them happy, attract new clients, keep track of billing and collections, how to speak in public . . .  Shall I go on?  In my opinion, core qualities to succeed in the profession.
