Our Visit to Loxton Cellars

Our Visit to Loxton Cellars

One of the highlights of our recent trip to northern California was a luxurious day spent in Sonoma.  My daughter planned the whole excursion for the four of us – complete with door to door service and a scrumptious midday lunch.  Next time I see you, I encourage you to ask to see pictures.

One of the vineyards we visited was Loxton Cellars where we met the vineyard’s owner and winemaker, originally from Australia and fourth degeneration in the business.  With a bit of a detour to a PhD in Physics, Loxton landed in Sonoma growing grapes.

He could not have been more generous with stories about life, Physics and his years as a research scientist, how Australia and the US compare and of course, wine.  I could have listened to his story for hours – wait, maybe we did.  Such an interesting tale of family, science, culture and passion.

And then, just as we were tasting the last of the chosen wines – I had an epiphany.  Apparently, I really like port wine.  Who knew? I came home with something new to explore – and of course, a bottle of Loxton Port.

[And special note to my friends David Abeshouse and Paul Napolitano, I hope you are both proud of me! It is not Moscato!]
