New Year's Eve: Bang or Bust?

New Year's Eve: Bang or Bust?

My New Year's Eve celebrations used to be a lot more exciting when I was young(er): I spent the Millennium Eve in Times Square (and now I'm over it). I've done enough all-night rave-like dance parties. There were also the obligatory family gatherings during the trying years; semi-sober (literally & figuratively). Last year my wife was working, so I spent it with a neighbor who moved away a few months later -- taking those memories with them.

What's left? I always wondered why folks spent $150/$175 (or more just for the ticket) to be in a restaurant, bar, lounge or catering hall. But that's what we're considering this year. In full honesty, we're considering one of the new cool places in Harlem -- not a rococo catering hall in the 'burbs (not yet). Maybe a little late-night jazz followed by a DJ? Yea, that's still hip & young right? (I'm haunted & taunted by her bedroom crying scene in When Harry Met Sally: "I'm going to be 40......when?........Someday!")

Speaking of which, we do have many seasoned citizens in Gotham: What are you doing for New Year's? Do you have a favorite ticket that you gobble up before you gobble down? Is there a secret side summoned for this secular sacred celebration? Any all-night dance parties awaiting you? Or, will you gather with your usual clique of friends & family? What will you do to make the night special? Uncork a rare bottle? Stream The Interview? Or do you have favorite stand-bys? How quickly after midnight does it all dissipate? Done by 1? Due at 2?

I'd love to hear how you're celebrating this New Year's in the comments. Maybe it'll give me some inspiration for this year & my many year's to come! It'll make 2015 even better than this topsy-turvy year. I'm about done with it; you?
